Bad Daycare experience

My 13 month old started daycare about 3 months ago, I was kinda in a jam, I had to go back to work and all the daycare's that I heard were the best in the area all had long waiting list, so I searched and search( we are also new to the area) I found one near my job and reasonably priced. The 1st month was fine, except for the fact I never really got any type of daily progress reports... Then the last month strange things started happening, I would send 6 diapers and he would come home with 5 and they would have his 2nd set of clothes on cuz the 1st was all pooped up, and I mean pooped up, like they didn't even dump in the toilet, just wrapped his clothes in a plastic bag and sent it home!! I was like ok, maybe the green beans and rice he ate for lunch didn't agree with him, but them it happened a second and a third time! I asked them what was going on b/c he NEVER pooped thru his clothes with me( peeing is one thing, but poop?).... They said oh, babies will be babies... Next, he had a slight temp Thursday night, which I controlled with Tylenol, the next morning I told them if he has a temp to please call me asap and I will come to get him, I call them at lunch they said he was fine and would call me if needed. I pick him up and he's burning up, The girl said the girl from the morning shift said he had a temp, I asked what it was, she didn't know!!! I asked why I wasn't called. she said she didn't know!!! I was furious!!!! The next morning I spoke with the owner who apologized and said it would not happen again. Then last friday were home about an hour and he's playing and pulls off his socks, he's on the floor and I almost pass out, the top of his feet look burnt!!! Black with soot. I touch than and it doesn't hurt him, I realize it was DIRT!!!! I run a bath and as I'm undressing him his knees are black with dirt too, and his diaper has carpet lint all over it!!!!! I am mortified by this point! So I'm to believe they have my 13 month old son crawling on the DIRTY carpet in just a diaper in 15 degree weather after he is getting over being sick!!!!!!!!! Why the in the world would they have my son or any child out of his clothes on a dirty floor and then not even notice the dirt and not clean him up, well I'm glad they didn't clean him otherwise I would not have known.Needless to say he has not been there all week(I took vaca time off work), I found a new daycare which he will be starting Monday.........I got him into one of the ones I originally wanted him in:) Thank god!! I haven't spoke to the owner of the bad day care yet, b/c I need to calm down a bit more before I see or speak to her. I'm thinking about reporting them for neglect. Does anyone think that I'm over reacting? I am a 1st time mother so I have no experience with daycare, but that was completely unacceptable to me...Thanks for listening:):Ur feedback is appreciated

    wow,

ok, first off. no ur not over reacting. im glad to hear u got him out of there.

re; him being sick, in the future leave the medicine there so they can give it to him periodically .

they sound like their over whelmed with kids, probably not enough staff.

I don't think that you are over reacting at all. I am careful on what day care my two year old sons go to. Before your child goes I would ask the manger if they know almost everything about every single person that works there because my little sister (3 years old) is in the hospital because she was getting sexual abused by the only guy that works there. Yesterday they found here in the bathroom with blood all over the floor and a huge cut in the back of her head. The guy that did it to her admit that my father (our father) payed him to do that to my sister. I don't live with her I got adopted into another family. Our father got out of jail on Christmas but he and the guy went to jail today. So be careful. Hope everything works out though!

Shawnee, you are definitely NOT overreacting. I would definitely say something to the owner as well as put it in writing as a formal complaint. I would also report them to a local agency that can come in a review their establishment. Chances are, if your son had all these issues, other parent's have had the same with their children as well. Calm down and get your points together because you want to ensure you come off in a manner that will demand an explanation and resolution. I am just glad to hear that you got your son into a daycare that seems better equipped to care for children.

I would definitely pull your son out of that day care center immediately and call the authorities.

It is only a mater of time before something serious happens to another child.

    Good luck there.
