Can kids recover from autism? Jenny McCarthy says yes

Hollywood celeb Jenny McCarthy appeared on CNN yesterday to discuss the link between autism and vaccines. McCarthy's son, Evan, was diagnosed with autism in 2005 and she believes it was triggered by vaccinations. She's been vigilant in her efforts to educate people about a link between vaccines and autism.

But after her interview on CNN, she might be spending more time talking to folks about how her son no longer has symptoms of autism.

McCarthy claims that Evan, now 6, has recovered from autism "like thousands of other kids who are doing it." She said he responded to biomedical treatment, which included a special diet, vitamins and supplements. Biomedical treatment, she said, is healing "a vaccine injury."

McCarthy wrote about her son's recovery from autism in her book, Louder Than Words: A Mother's Journey in Healing Autism.

I really want to believe that autism can be cured. But I feel like the scientific community would be shouting from the rooftops if such a possibility existed.

Many Shine users have posted about their own journeys with their autistic children. I'm curious what you think about Jenny McCarthy's statements. Do you believe autism can be cured?

I have a 10 year old son who is autistic. The fact that his first symptoms began after a series of vaccinations makes me wonder. I do not wish to sue the doctor who administered them or the drug company who produced them. I only wish to find out if this could have possibly been a cause and if it could be corrected or helped in any way. Take the lawyers out of the mix and let the doctors do their work with only the best interests of these children in mind. God bless these kids!!!!!!

Having a 5 year old son with autism, I KNOW that vaccinations caused it. He was normal and advanced reaching every milestone early. At 15 mo he could count to 15. Then after his MMR, he stopped talking and walking and started screaming. It never ended that screaming. His pediatrician blew me off as though it wasn't important and was normal. He didn't call me mom again for over 3 years. People can argue back and forth but those of us who have lived this know what happened. I just don't understand how mercury, lead and aluminum all neuro toxins couldn't be causing this! They were all in the vaccines that he received at toxic levels. Attempting to remove mercury isn't very effective with varying degrees of success. People have been mislead to believe that they don't add thimerasol. They do they simply attempt to remove the mercury later. Hence they've removed it from the vaccine, not that they don't put it in there any more.

All of us need to know as well, that many of these studies are done by people who own vaccine patents. Dr. Paul Ortiff is one who owns vaccine patents but still is able to do credible "research" and speak on vaccines behalf as though he is "impartial". How the media is able to do this is beyond me. Why doesn't anyone study how many of these "studies" are credible based on who is doing the studying???? If I can find this out so can doctors. They simply don't want to crucify their golden calf!

My grandson is diagnosed with Autism. I believe that his diet has a great effect on him. My son and daughter gave him what was easy when he was very young. I think you should be fed at the table with everyone eating together and not in front of the TV. my daughter( master-degree) eats everything with a spoon.HUH...........

I currently work as an aba therapist providing treatment to individuals with autism and other developmental disabilites. I wonder why Jenny doesn't broadcast the fact that her child recieved 40 hours of aba intervention per week which is designed to increased skill and language acquistion. Im sorry but I think she has a lot to gain financially by publishing books and appearing on these talks shows.

I would agree, I took a tetanus vaccine in 2005 & had a reaction. Have been unable to work since vaccine. On disability SS, I would much rather work. I wish I had lied about how long it had been since my last tetanus.

I was born with Autism, I'm 25. Everything she says about against vaccinations because it causes Autism is flat out wrong. This can't be cured, and if you don't vaccinate your children, diseases that were once eradicated come back like Pertussis, Measles, etc.

THANK YOU JENNY MCCARTHY for your courage, for being "Louder than words " every chance you get, for your dedication to this subject and for teaching me to be a great mother that is aware of all sides of vaccinations. Keep doing exactly what you are doing!

OMG. The lunatics have taken over the asylum. Jenny McCarthy an expert on autism? That's like saying I'm an expert on melanoma because I have a mole. Are people so intellectually debased as to put their faith a marginally successful has-been celebrity as an 'expert' on a complex medical/genetic condition? This hack and her quack claim that polio, autism and every other childhood ailment can be cured by not eating cheese. Ridiculous. Inane. Stupidity of the most egregious form.
