CENSORSHIP...GONE FOREVER!
Well, I came to a grave discovery right now. I thought SHINE was cool, all the advice, all the talented writers and a cool place to hang....that is until I realized there is absolutely NO censorship!!!
I am a wife, writer AND mom! This truly sucks, that I have contributed to a place that allows such explicit talk about sex without any censorship or age verification! I am no prude by far, I am also all for freedom of speech, but when my 12 year old son or 17 year old daughter can read about how to have a "O" or where the "G" is...I have an issue with that!
I only found this out, because I wanted to write an advice column blog for relationships. I was hoping that it would be monitored and either approved or moved. NOPE! write whatever you want, because shine will not monitor, read or evaluate ANYTHING! Want a home-made porn site? DO IT HERE could be the title!
I know we as women, really need a place where we can express, talk, complain and even fantasize about our lives, but at the expense of under age kids? our kids?
Am I being too hard on Yahoo possibly? I don't think so. I emailed Shine about spam comments left on my other blogs, the kind that take you to some silly singles/soft porn websites. I wanted them removed immediately. No such luck! I love this blog site as well, really I do, but there needs to be a way to keep these posts out of the reach of kids.
My 10 year old son received an email from Yahoo Advertisements directing him over here to shine...that is how I actually logged on. My 10 year old? He could click on "Love & Sex" tab and get an ear and eyeful! I am hoping that this blog gets the attention of Moderators at Shine. I have much to offer in blogging and opinions here, but I am worried about the content being so visible to youngsters.

Good God. Set up the parental controls on your internet browser and chill out. You can set up your computer so each family member has their own account and each has to log in with their own password. This also allows you to control the types of things your kids can access online. Don't depend on society to do everything for you.
And-- for that matter-- the adult content filters you seemingly depend on are not foolproof. All a kid has to do is choose to turn off the adult filters in yahoo or google anyways to access inappropriate content. The adult filters you so crave don't work very well if your kid can read.
I, for one, am sick and tired of parents who cry foul when something isn't kid friendly. Some things are not meant for kids. It's your responsibility as a parent to control access to non-kid things. Get computer savvy and learn how to do it. Don't cry to me, yahoo, google, or anybody else because you don't know how to use your web browser more effectively.

Hi Erinn, I'm Shine's Community Manager. We created Shine as a place for women and friends of women to read, share information, laugh, and converse. While we are building this community, we depend on users, like you, to report any abuse they see. By clicking on the report abuse link you'll help us appropriately handle any content that violates our Terms of Service. I do not like all the, don't have to use these words to make a point, words, either. It does show just how many immature females there are out there. You can't very well complain about your immature man when you can't even talk without, bleeps.
