Cop tasers 10-year-old with mom's permission

There've been times when I've had the urge to use a taser on my son. Oh, have there.

Like last night when I told him to go to his room after he batted his sister in the head with a light saber and he matter-of-factly said, "No. No, thank you, not happening," cloaked in that irritating 6-year old attitude of his ...

But I can't imagine I would ever really do that ... or even ask a police officer to!

An Arkansas mom did! Last week, on Veteran's Day, she called police after her 10-year old daughter refused to take a shower. She gave the responding officer permission to "tase" the unruly girl if necessary, according to a report in the Huffington Post.

The officer did tase the 10-year old girl -- a quick pop on her back -- but only after the girl kicked him in the groin when he tried to take her into custody.

Now the cop is in big trouble, not for tasing the girl but for not having a video camera attached to the taser when he did it. Some departmental rule, I guess, but perhaps it happened so fast he didn't have time. Now he's suspended for seven days without pay.

Question: Who's most in the wrong here?

Take our poll

Police say tasers are a safe way to subdue people who are a danger to themselves or others. Would you ever give permission to use a taser on your child if they were a real danger?

Wow...If I had a child, I would, but only if it were a REAL problem, not just them not wanting to take a bath...that's just stupid!

This mother should for one be FINED for having called the police for such an inncident.

The parent and the child need some kind of compromising conversational skills,

The Mother should let the child smell bad for a few days!!!

But then child srvices would be on that right ???

The officer in my opinion should in no way have issued this tasing upon a minor. Even if the groin area was injured.

A Police officer should have had better reflex skills to ward of such an [Attack}.

Video tape??? What? On a taser? No wonder this Country is Broke!

This is definitely more effective than "You just wait 'til your dad gets home!"

Not NO BUT HELL NO. What is wrong with that woman? My God this a 10 year old little girl and she can't handle her? You see that is where our whole system has gone array. It used to be ,when I was growing up anyway, that if you got the nerve up to tell your mother "no" or disobeyed her she would either go out in the yard and cut a switch(or better yet make you cut it) or get the ever dreaded belt out and commence to "tear your a** up". And I'll bet the next time you did as you were told. The government has gone so far as to take away the rights of parents to discipline their children and reintroduce the practice as "child abuse" and that my friend is what's wrong with children these days. They fill these kids heads with the thoughts that if their mother or father discipline them by using corporal punishment then they have in fact been abused. Then they are to run to their nearest teacher, law enforcement officer, fireman, school nurse, etc. and tell how mom or dad spanked them for not cleaning their room or smarting off at them. What bull****. Now I do not agree with corporal punishment in schools merely because I believe the spanking should be done by a parent or guardian only. It is the schools job to notify said parents or guardians of unacceptable behavoir and then it is to be handled "at home". Many of you will argue that alot of parents in fact do go overboard when discipling their kids and that is where children should be made to understand the difference between abuse and a good old fashioned "spanking". Please people...give our kids a little more credit. They know the difference between mom or dad spanking their backsides for not following the rules and getting punched in the face. By taking the right to discipline our children away from us has given these youngsters all the ammunition they need to just go beserk and run all over not only there own parents or guardians but every other adult that attempts to teach them right from wrong. When is the madness going to end? Then when these same little darlings grow up to be teenagers(sometimes even younger) and young adults and commit a carjacking, begin selling drugs, robbing businesses, causing riots and the list goes on the government and persons affliated want to turn the blame back around to all those parents and guardians that did the best they could with the laws they were offered. Boy, talk about a double standard or calling the kettle black. If the parents and guardians were given back their rights to discipline their "own" children again we may get lucky and see a few more upstanding young citizens produced instead a bunch of holigans. I don't know....this is just my take on things. All I do know is that the occasional spanking and tongue-lashing that I received while I was growing up seemed to make me alot better person. I definetly know what's right and wrong and I respect my elders unlike so many kids today. Thank goodness I listened to my mother when raising my children...they turned out pretty damn good if I may say so myself!

What isn't explained in this narration of the story is that the girl has mental problems and was seriously out of control...not necessarily a discipline issue. My daughter works with children like that and it IS necessary to forcibly restrain them to keep them from hurting themselves and/or others (my daughter has had the bruises and bite marks to prove it). While I don't condone using the taser on her, I do understand the mother calling for help.

So, You can call the police when your kids don't want to take a both? How about not eating thier vegetables? or cleaning thier room? Man, the police would be at my house all the time!

If the child has mental problems, then the mother should be adequately trained to restrain the grils when necessary. The police are not trained to adequately deal with the mentally disabled. This mother was in the wrong, all the way around.
