Crafty mamas help their kids make....gak

Oh, I know, why make homemade gak when little kids play with it in daycare and preschool all the time. But look! It's so pretty! And so fun!

For those of you who don't know what gak is, think of it as silly putty only more shiny, pliable and long lasting. Plus, it's super cheap to make and younger kids will dig the process of mixing non-toxic Elmer's glue, liquid startch and the food coloring of their choice. And you can thank blogger Polliwog's Cake for posting the very simple directions.

Once the gak is thick enough, kids can roll it out like Play Doh, cut it with scissors, make shapes with cookie cutters, whatevs. We use it on old cookie sheets so it stays in one spot.

AWESOME! Oh childhood memories... Getting lint permanently stuck in the stuff just from dropping it on the carpet.

Yeap this stuff is great! I love creating different colors with the food coloring. We made it in daycare when I used to work with kids. I have made it for my kids once or twice but they also really like homemade play-doh. It's so much more pliable than the store bought stuff.
