Wow, there's a real news flash. No matter how it's packaged, the TV Babysitter is still bad for your kids! :)
Disney is a conglomerate which is not interested in your kids, or their cognitive development, or keeping you informed (ABC News). All they want is your money, period, and they will manipulate you any way they can to part you from your hard-earned cash. While that may seem like just another "good business" day in our market economy, one should keep in mind that Disney's real business is "entertainment," not "education" or "enlightenment," and if you approach the Disney merchandising machine with that in mind, you won't be appalled, angered to lawsuit, or merely disappointed.
Next time you're in the children's department of any chain bookstore, check out how many titles are published by Disney, or are their movie or theme park "tie-ins." You'll be amazed--probably 30-40% of the department. "Reading" is supposed to be good for your kids, right? But just like everything else, you need to monitor the content. What Disney masks as "educational" is nothing more than the equivalent of a diet consisting of nothing but french fries. Fun at the moment, but unhealthy in the short and long run.
Regarding all things Disney, "Buyer Beware."

Report AbuseI am sure it is probably the same with the "Your Baby Can Read" series that is out there. TV isn't a babysitter or a substitute for a parent reading to their child from a book. There are good educational and entertaining programs out there but I think that time in front of a tv set should be very limited especially for infants/toddlers. There is so much more for them to explore in this world. Sights, smells, textures to feel, things to taste, things to hear. I think Disney has gone downhill with their committment to families with young children in the past several years. It was bound to happen I guess but it is disappointing.

Report AbuseJusta bad substitute for what children relly need to develop and learn acceptable social skills. Closely moderated personal interaction is the best and we as a society have become nothing more than self indulgent escapists. We really need to care enough to do this ourselves ot find someone with old world decency to instill some moral fiber, consciousness and stop letting the machine lead us into what we suffer from now... over-consuming idiots! Credit probles anyone... bad economy. Let's buy another gold encrusted set of sunglasses while driving a car the neighbors would just die for and oh, don"t forget the our latest fashion accessory... our children.
