DIY Lego party for $50

A few months ago I thought I had the birthday party smarts for being able to toss a shindig for my son while spending under $100 on everything. But I bow down to Amy Clark from Mom Advice. She had a Lego-inspired birthday party for her son's sixth birthday and with all its coolness, she only spent $50...with 20 guests. That's $2.50 per person, folks.

I almost want to have a Lego party just to replicate it, no birthday necessary. Maybe an end of summer party? Hmmmm.

The key to this party under $50 is that everything but the main food dish was either home made or already something she had on hand:

  • Amy made an adorable Lego-like cake. Recipe and instructions here. Cost? $5.50.
  • Decorations were simple (paper pinwheels) and Lego, of course.
  • Kid entertainment included building with the Lego blocks. But Amy also downloaded coloring pages from the Lego website and let the little ones get crafty.
  • Food? Pizza. Easy enough.
She also wrote and framed a letter to her son where she recapped all the amazing things that happened to him over the past year. So sweet.

For full details on how to create a Lego party for under fifty bucks and links to more resources, check out Amy's post.

Very clever. I wonder if my 10 year old (I mean soon to be 11) would still like this idea. Sounds good to do without the birthday!

This sounds made up. Legos alone are so expensive, but I like the cake!
