Five Unexpected Times New Moms Cry

As a parent I've come to terms with the fact that my little ones will frequently bring tears to my eyes. I'm a crybaby and I'm okay with it. I had the tissue ready for when she went off to preschool or said momma for the first time, but some events brought on the waterworks without warning. Here's my weepy bittersweet look at five unexpected times new moms can expect to cry.
  • First Shots - It's almost inevitable that your lil one will shriek when she gets her shots, but a new mom may also be brought to tears to see and hear her baby's discomfort. Don't be surprised if you cry more than your bundle of joy the first time she's getting poked.
  • First Tooth - The first tooth is exciting — I couldn't wait to see my tot's pearly whites. However, I broke down into tears once I felt the sharp chomper poking through — another delightful sign that she was growing up way too fast.
  • First Moves - Crawling and walking are monumental milestones in a tot's life. Once your little one is able to move on her own, you're not responsible for entertaining her 24/7. My daughter's mobility stopped me in my footsteps as I realized that life was moving faster than she.
  • First Merry-Go-Round Ride - A ride on the merry-go-round brings joy to many a child. I watched my child's face light up with pure delight the first time I took her for a spin, and I reached for the tissue.
  • First Time Sharing - Teaching is part of the parenting job description. As we try to coax our children to be polite, sharing is not a child's forté. My daughter has cried many times over not wanting to share, but witnessing her willingly passing on a toy to her playmate brought tears of happiness (and relief) to my eyes.

I still remember when my son first hugged me back. I didn't want to let go, and the tears just fell. And I'm not a crier! And now he tells me he loves me, which is another extremely special thing to me.

I cried on the ride home from the hospital, my husband said I was crying because I though about all of the stop lights my son would waste time at throughout his life(ha ha!)but I cried because I was thinking about all of the things that I could not protect him from out in the world that I could control when he was still safe inside me. Maybe hormones, but at the time it was just really overwhelming for a first time mom.

just a few days ago my son (in kindergarden) and i were reading little bear. he said he wanted to read and did his best. he's had some trouble with reading skills thus far and i usually have to tell him it's time to sit down and read. but that night he was so happy and proud to have read by himself (almost). i still tear up thinking about his happy little smile and twinkling eyes.

Every morning when I get my DS from his crib, he just turns into mush and rests his head on my shoulder when I pick him up. Its my morning hug and I live for it everyday and everyday I get watery eyed.

Also, he's just getting the hang of talking (he's a little late) and I nearly cried with happiness when he said "aah duu" (all done) and wiggled away from me when he was tired of my combing out his curls. And today, after lunch he struggled to say "naaa-p" as I prepped him for his naptime! I am so proud of my little man!!!

I cried the just the day before yesterday when my little girl (only 3 months) started rolling over from her back to her tummy. This is going by way too fast! Then I cried last night when her Grandma came and took her to her house for two whole nights! (Grandma lives 3 hours away). I'm all lonely sitting at home by myself...*tears*

The times that I have cried is at their performances at school and when they achieve something and especially when they are sick with the fever or a cold.

The first time my daughter could sing along to her favorite Disney songs, and the first time she said I love you.

Why do we promote sharing as a virtue? P.S. My question doesn't mean that I'm opposed to sharing but just wondering why we think it is a positive character trait.
