Guess which celebrity couple spent $100K on their kid's birthday party?

Suri rocks the $100K birthday party

Suri rocks the $100K birthday party

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes clearly misread the memo saying that $10,000 is the new norm for excessive kid's birthday parties. They somehow added an extra digit and spent
$100,000 to celebrate the second birthday of daughter Suri. They must feel so silly.

NY Daily News reports they had some pretty amazing birthday cakes (note the plural), $45,000 in food (catered from Wolfgang Puck no less) and decorated with $17,000 worth of fresh flowers. And 1,000 butterflies flew around her. It sounds like a movie set.

Now if you'll excuse me I'll be checking out ways to throw pretty cool birthday parties without dropping more than a single Benjamin.

I have to agree, margarita. Think about how many kids and families could've eaten on just the catering cost alone! $45k goes a VERY long way when buying food for villages of impoverished people. Just depressing...

I'm with Baboo. To Tom and Katie, it's like us doing a Chuckie Cheese Party, come on people it's a whole different world for them. I'll bet you there are more than a few times that they'd trade that world to be able to walk down the street without a bodyguard (or 2) by their sides.

Why don't they use that money to help out the economy or lower gas prices...Suri won't even remember this birthday party besides reading about it.

True it is their money, but are they not guilty when they stand there and tell the average JOE to give money to feed one child. One paycheck from one movie, just might feed many countries in Africa. So who is the selfish and materialistic ones?

Clearly, this was a party for THEM and not their 2year old daughter. Let's call it what it was -- a business event. Afterall, their business is SHOW business. Let's just not kid ourselves that this was really ANYONE's birthday party, let alone a 2 year old's. My 2yr old (born days before Suri) had a nice gathering with family, cake, cupcakes & presents & had another little get together with her four best kiddie friends - playing with toys, doing a craft, pinning the nose on Elmo & snacks. By all accounts, everyone involved had a wonderful time. THAT's a 2yr old birthday party.
