Guess which celebrity couple spent $100K on their kid's birthday party?
editor
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes clearly misread the memo saying that
$10,000 is the new norm for excessive kid's birthday parties. They somehow added an extra digit and spent
$100,000 to celebrate the second birthday of daughter Suri. They must feel so silly.
NY Daily News reports they had some pretty amazing birthday
cakes (note the plural), $45,000 in food (catered from Wolfgang Puck no
less) and decorated with $17,000 worth of fresh flowers. And 1,000 butterflies flew around her. It sounds like a movie set.
Now if you'll excuse me I'll be
checking out ways to throw pretty cool birthday parties without dropping more than a single Benjamin.

How sad, you know in the photo above and in almost all I've seen it is obvious to me that this child is not just adorable but truly adored. But you all know that was not for her benefit it was to impress the other "grownups" at the party as well as the media and it sure did the trick.
Most people can't spend that much on their weddings or educations much less a toddler birthday party.
A close friend of mine has a mission she and her parents run in Africa, I've seen the same bright eyed smiles on those kids eyes as they wash their dishes in mud, Yes I did just say that, they use mad to wash their dishes and then just wipe them off. They have no plumbing or clean drinking water and she is struggling to raise money to have wells dug. Each one would only cost $5000 to dig so that they can have fresh clean water to drink, cook and bathe in. My how the values of this world are messed up.
I don't begrudge them their money either, he is a terrific actor and so is Katie and they've earned it. It might not have any basis in reality that actors make that much but they do. I just wish we as a people could get together and put some perspective in place that would help to teach our children to help those in need and live without so much excess in this country. But I have a feeling we're about to all get hit right between the eyes with that reality. To each his own I guess.

I agree "it's their money to spend as they chose" but 100k on a toddlers birthday party that she'll never remember while normal people are selling off family heirlooms just so they can put food on the table and pay their electricity bill, something is definetely wrong with that picture.
If I had money to "throw away" I think (KNOW) I could find a needier place to throw it.

Holy goodness me. What a judgemental world we live in.. Come on people. It doesn't take much to be nice. The Guy makes great money, does more than any of us know for Charity and what ever else. So what if they went to town for their beautiful little girl. My goodness, on the scale of things people - it was nothing financially to them. Now, what about you... hummm, pretty darn sure you guys spent more than you could probably afford for your little ones. Goodness, I just did an afternoon tea and had 25 grown ups.. (I'm English) sure was a lot of work and a fare bit of cash (for my budget anyway) but guess what, I spent it. Let's just rejoice in the happiness of a babies birthday party. amanda
