Gwen bleaches Kingston's hair: Do you think it's OK to dye a child's hair?

Gwen Stefani is back with her old band, No Doubt, and has upgraded her solo glamorous look for a more punky, rock image. She also took her son Kingston along for the ride, shaving the sides of his head and bleaching/spiking his hair.

Personally, I think it looks cute, but I do know some moms who may disapprove. I think if the child is old enough to voice an opinion, it's really fine. When I was back in high school I was dyeing my hair pink with Manic Panic and my younger brother asked me to dye his hair blue, and later on to bleach it. With the OK of my parents, I happily helped with the dyeing process, and he was the star of his class. Though our private school administration was less than thrilled, there was no rule against it, and pretty soon more and more kids began dyeing their own hair. I think little Kingston is becoming quite the trendsetter too.

Do you think it's OK for your children to dye their hair? Would you ever dye their hair or give them a dramatic cut before they were old enough to voice an opinion? [Perez]

I think he looks absolutely adorable! As long as whoever is doing the process is taking extra care to protect his eyes, mouth and skin, I see nothing wrong with playing with his hair. It's just hair. It can be cut off! Some may argue that the chemicals are getting into his system, but I gotta wonder if those same people ever look at the chemicals they're putting in their own kids' bodies when they feed them fast/processed food on a daily basis.

I have given my girls blonde "streaks" over the years whenever I have a little bleach left in the bowl after hiliting. It's fun and they get a huge kick out of it.

Although I would never color my kids hair that young I don't have a problem with people who do. I would (and have) do the funky cuts though, it's just hair, it grows back.

No absolutely not. All that does is teaches the child they should not be happy with who they are and/or they should become what society wants them to become for attention. Terrible, terrible parenting.

Beth...or does it teach them that it doesn't matter what society thinks, to do what makes them happy(after all, it's not hurting another soul) and to have little fun in life?

I think the bigger issue here is the fact the kid can walk an still has a pacifier! His adult teeth are going to be all jacked up! As for the hair, I don't think it's a big deal.

I have some friend that bleach their hair in high school and they became bald at a young age. That is the only worry if the roots are being damage otherwise I think its cute.
