If Heidi Klum can gain 45 lbs during pregnancy, I can too!

One of the OBGYNs in the collective I go to made a big stink about how much weight I am gaining...but she's the only one. The others seem very happy with my progress and didn't tell me to "Watch it" when talking about the foods I should eat.

Don't get me started...I am so annoyed with this one doctor.

I'm 35 weeks pregnant with twins and have so far gained 53 pounds.

I just found out that Heidi Klum gained 45 pounds during her fourth pregnancy. Oh Heidi...just when I thought it was impossible for me to love you more and now this!

Now I'm not saying that all pregnant women should gain a lot of weight. I think it really depends on the weight you are before you got pregnant and I do think it's important, not to mention healthy for you and baby (or babies), to keep weight within reason.

But it's also inspiring to see women like Heidi who gained a lot and then lost it all soon after baby arrived. Klum surprised everyone when she walked the Victoria's Secret Runway show six weeks after Lou Sulola was born...looking gorgeous.

Are you concerned about your weight gain during pregnancy?

I think comparing your weight gain with Heidi's is only valid if you are the same size. She is 5'9" tall and most likely underweight before pregnancy. When she was actively modeling she only weighed 119 lbs. A woman her height should weigh 150lbs+. She had to gain 30 lbs just to be normal weight!

Seriously who gives a flying f*ck about Heidi Klum? She has money, personal trainer, nutritionist etc... Oh did I forgot to mention TIME.

If comparing you & your baby's health to a supermodel's rather than your doctor's education and a more realistic diagnostic of your health. You're obviously not using the brains God gave you.

Parveneh - What a silly comment! Women Heidi's height should weigh 150+ pounds? That's absurd. I am almost 5'11 and weighed about 135 pounds before I got pregnant (I'm 24 weeks now and weigh around 150) but was definitely out of shape and flubby at 135. I needed to be around 125 pounds to look toned and healthy.

My first pregnancy I completely changed my eating habits and ate a ton of fruit, veggies and proteins and my only indulgence was a small piece of chocolate cake once a week. I gained 40lbs. This pregnancy I am 31 weeks along and have only gained 17lbs. and I decided I don't have the time or energy to have a special diet. So, I just eat when I am hungry (and try to cut the choc. cake to a minimum). Everything in moderation. Just Live life, take amazement in the wonderful miracle growing inside of you and stop counting the pounds.

It seems to me like you are looking for an excuse to gain a lot of weight. But gaining a lot of weight isn't nessessary. I hate the term "eating for two." It's a bogus statement with a false meaning. The fetus inside of you doesn't "eat." It simply takes the nutrients from the food YOU eat. It doesn't mean you have to eat more and stuff your face with the excuse of "I'm pregnant." Even if it was eating it surely wouldn't consume the same about you would alone. Compairing apples to apples, technically you wouldn't have to consume more than a few extra bites. Plus, think of what carrying around all that extra weight will do to you and your baby. And don't forget that if you care about your post pregnant figure at all, you're gonna have to lose all that weight after. Heidi Klum is a model, a rich one at that. She has available to her unbelievable resources to practically lose that weight for her including personal chefs, the best trainers, and nutritionists AT HER HOUSE! Not to mention nannies and caretakers to watch over the new baby while she works out and does her job. And her job is a model. She gets paid to look like that. Her attitude about gaining pregnancy weight is probably a little different because her drive for taking it off is going to be stronger. If you want to gain weight against your doctors advice that is your choice I guess. But looking like Heidi Klum preganant doesn't mean you'll like Heidi Klum after your pregnant. Good luck with that.

I would totally ignore that dr. If it was a problem all of them would have said something to you. I gained 40 pounds with my first child. I'm hoping to only gain 20 with this one but we shall see... You probably have at least 10 pounds of baby in there. It will be fine :)

Meghan-- you have serious body distortion issues. My sister is 5'9" - 5'10 model stick thin naturally and weighs in at 125 at her skinniest. For someone as small-boned as her that's really tiny and should NOT be trying to lose more weight. Most women that height are thicker-boned,more muscular, and should weigh way more.

FYI, per your BMI calculations based on your height and weight, 125 lbs is very UNDERweight and 135 pounds is only 0.3 of a point above underweight categories. Per normal and healthy BMI calcs, you should weigh at least 140-175 in your height and weight range.

But I agree with other people... eating for two isn't a good rule to think about otherwise you can blow up like a balloon. You should make sure you eat healthy and have a well-balanced diet. And Heidi can afford to gain that weight... because she can afford all the resources to get it off. Haha!

Everyone is different. That seems to be something people are forgetting here. Believe it or not, I am only 5'3" and when I was sickly and dying from gall bladder disease, weighed 140. I was borrowing a 9 year old's clothes. I went from a DD to a C cup and was proportionate. According to doctors and their charts, I was still overweight. Yet when I went into the hospital I was given a small gown and told by a nurse I was "tiny".

I recommend never going back to that doctor. Yes, most doctors know what they are talking about more than the average patient, HOWEVER, it is never a good idea to be seeing a doctor that you don't like. As far as how much weight to gain? As long as you and your babies are healthy, does it really matter? Just remember, the healthier you are, the easier it will all be. Just be thankful you are gaining weight. I was so sick with my pregnancies that I lost weight in the first two trimesters.
