Is the Sir Mix-a-Lot Burger King commercial too much for kids?

Burger King is selling kids' meals with a SpongeBob related remix of Sir Mix-a-Lot's "Baby Got Back." In the latest commercial from their bizarre ad campaign, the King sings about his love for square butts, and his desire to "get with" SpongeBob while ladies shake their booties.

Here's the kicker: the ad was made in partnership with the children's television station, Nickelodeon.

Susan Linn, the director of the Campaign for Commercial-Free Childhood said: "It's bad enough when companies use a beloved media character like SpongeBob to promote junk food to children, but it's utterly reprehensible when that character simultaneously promotes objectified, sexualized images of women."

Update: The Campaign for Commercial Free-Childhood has launched a letter-writing campaign against the ad, encouraging parents to ask Burger King and Nickelodeon to pull the ad. Both companies say the ad is targeted at adults. Seriously?

After seeing the original "Baby Got Back" video nearly 100 times in our lifetimes and now viewing it as more campy than objectifying, we were a little numb and then confused upon first hearing the jingle. Square butts? This is insane! What are they talking about?! But bringing SpongeBob into the ad definitely makes it appear that it's trying to get then attention of kids.

Take a look at the BK ad, and tell us: Would you want your kids seeing this commercial?

You better believe BK anticipated this controversy and loves the attention. They have nothing to lose and everything to gain by having people talk, and inevitably laugh, about 'square butts'.

Kids find butts funny - that's just the way it is. They are too young to see it as a sexual thing, so they find it hilarious.

All the shrill PC people should be recieving their thank you cards from BK soon, because they are helping them attain the very needed product recognition they created the commercial to attain.

    Amazing

Kids watch bugs bunny hit someone over the head with a mallet but people gripe about women shaking their butts

The commercial is fine to me, My family gets a kick out of it, and my son thinks it's funny that they have square booties. Some loser was bored and thought they would try and get something going about this commercial, if your child is watching spongebob then this is nothing. I don't think the writers are going for kids anymore.

This is a very creeping marketing effort directed at children. It is sexual in nature and certainly objectifies women. Young kids are smart and would definitely pick up on it. Parents, on the other hand, may be a little denser.

Yes it's a funny commercial until you see who the target audience is. All the sexual suggestiveness does not belong hawking kids meals.

And a lot of these so called parents commenting on these pages like the commercial is family bonding time have the moral turpitude of a slug. I'll bet you have the most down to earth, well adjusted family in the trailer park.

Congratulations Burger King for doing your part in pushing morality a little further into the gutter for that all mighty corporate dollar.
