Itty bitty bites: Colorful rainbow cake will blow your kids away

There's nothing like a pretty cake to make your kid smile, especially when it's made on a random day...just for kicks.

I've filed this rainbow cake under the category of "Must Try Immediately" because it's simply too cool (just like the Hello Kitty cake pops. Side note: I did make these with a twist, but it didn't go as planned. Attempt number two will be documented.)

Now, it would be fun to surprise your kids with this cake. But it would be almost as much fun to have them help you make it. Need convincing? Look at the pretty pictures! I know, oh, I know, it has crazy amounts of food coloring. But I'm willing to run with it because of its sheer awesomeness. [via Craftzine]

(Also, since I'm clearly having an "unhealthy food" moment, look at this Root Beer Cookies. Yum!)

:) I hear it tastes normal, even with all the colors. But I guess I'll have to test it out to believe it!

I hope it tastes good. Technicolor, that's funny! How do you get all of those colors together like that anyway? I don't even have the patience to attempt it with jello

Are you people serious? Is the health condition in this country not evidence enough to make you folks understand how important it is to teach your kids healthy eating habits? one thing, it is cake, fine! nice treat, but the COLOURING in there is enough to make anyone's liver, kidney, and all other body organs just stop functioning!!!! stop feeding your kids crap!!!!! it is nowhere near good for their bodies!! unless you use natural colouring but all I see as a mom is POISON!! JEEZ!!!!

    oh rare b,

we're not talking about feeding this cake to our kids all day, every day. it's a fun, spontaneous, kid-like treat (emphasize KID). if you've followed the parenting section here on Shine, you'll know that we definitely emphasize smart, healthy eating habits. however, there are times when it's nice to have a little fun.

Now that's a fun cake ! Of course, kids will love it! I made a similar one in a bundt pan with three different colored layers and took it to a picnic. Young and young at heart enjoyed it. You can custom the colors for Valentines, Christmas, Easter, etc.

That looks really fun!! My kids will love eatingthat and helping me make it.

In reference to the comments to and from rare b, I agree with Charlene. 90% of the time, my kids are eating fresh fruit, yogurt with fresh fruit, nuts, ect healthy stuff. Every once in a while, they deserve to eat fun stuff. A little every once in a while won't harm them.
