Comparing soda to drugs makes absolute sense because of the harmful chemicals in the soda. With all of the other options why bother giving children soda? It's like saying to a teenager that an occasional cigarette can't hurt but over a period of years it can definitely hurt. Dr.Oz demonstrated what 1 can of soda does to the brain and the other organs and it is just not worth the risk. It took me 2 years of monitoring my boys who are a little older to keep them from drinking soda. My husband is completely addicted to soda. He is 46 years old and I suspect I will bury him in the next 15 years. He was brought up in Scotland and healthy eating and drinking is just not a way of life for the area he was raised. I know momof4 is a serious, great mother. I read every word she writes. I have spent years reading and writing articles about the evils of soda and I believe that there is not one reason to give a child the soda option. Even holidays-no soda unless you bring your own.

Personally, I haven't really seen a difference in a child who has had a soda. That being said, I do not think children should have soda except perhaps, on special occasions. Soda is just not good for anybody. It damages teeth, does a number on our internal organs, is full of empty calories, and does nothing to quench thirst. In fact, it dehydrates the body. Allowing a child to have a soda when they are thirsty helps them establish a bad habit at an early age.

I agree that most soda will have adverse effects on child or adult.

As a parent I can only control my house, but the world is a big place.

Once kids have an allowance, and a bit of freedom guess what; they are gonna drink: soda, coffee, sweets, smoke ciarettes, and probably try pot by the end of High School. Sounds fairly normal to me,you?

I whole-heartedly support instilling fine moral and health concious thinking while we can. The best and most rescpectful way to help your kids is to tell them the real truth. Some of the posts prior to this mention ADHD, I have s few comments based on wide-spread observations I have made in my own life. (ExAMPLE)- My nephew started to fall behind in school, and really just didn't any interest at all. He was diagnosed with ADHD. Now he is taking Aderal with great success, I'm not at all surprised. Aderal contains the SAME 3 major componants that exist in METH AMPHETAMINE. No wonder he speeds through all his work and becomes hyper focused on anything he does. By the way this kid doesnt drink soda, mostly water or juice. Hmm, also interesting before the Aderal, he was able to concentrate on and succeed with extremely complex video games hours on end, with EXTEREME CONCENTRATION and tremendous success. Does that sound like a child who needs to be taking ADDICTIVE METH AMPHETAMINES? I say no!!! Air force pilots are given the same stuff to stay awake and focused for strategic precision bombings, some of which are 24-36 hours long.

Some kids and folks show clear advances taking these highly addictive chemicals. I would feed my kid all the soda in the world to keep the off of hard drugs of anykind, That is untill they are dropping bombs and taking METH to protect our country and all of our futures.

EDUCATE your kids, school isn't good enough. And kids who think that their ADHD meds are safe guess what, YOU ARE ON METH AMPHETAMINES, yep the same addictive drug componants that have over 75% of United States citizens in prison. This is a well studied sitaution of the abuse of addictive drugs. Society listen clear, you want a drug free child in a drud field world, stop giving your kids drugs of any sort. Doctors only practice medicine, do you think they take Aderol, Meth, Coccaine, Rydlin, etc... probably not so much. Do you think they drink a soda, coffee, alcohol, smoke cigareettes? Of course they do!!

Ask your doctor next time they re-up your kids script, if they give these drugs to their own kids, and how concerned they are about their kids drinking a soda-pop. People please use your common sense and EDUCATE your children, tell them the truth always. If you do you should have a healthier and more trusting relationship with those whom you love the most. KEEP KIDS OF OFF ALL DRUGS, there have been tremendous humans who never even heard of soda, meth, Rydlin, Aderol, etc...if they could make these world changing effect without drugs I know my kids can. All they study in school are tremendous human beings doing tremedous world altering changes, be stong parents, and you get even stronger children. PLEASE HELP OUR YOUNGINS' GET OFF THESE LEGALLY PRESCRIBED GATEWAY ADDICTIVE DRUGS. IF THEY NEED IT IN GRADE SCHOOL, DON'T YOU THINK THEY FEEL THEY WILL NEED IT THROUGHT LIFE?

...get smart and try the "harmless drugs they pescribe your children, if it isn'y dangerous for them you should be fine. You will however be quite surprised how these "HARMLESS" drugs effect and affect your life.

Kids rely on us to make the right decision in their life. Let' start making the right decicions. And please honestly compare soda to Aderol, Meth (legal and Illegal), you will make the right choices if YOU do your homework for them. Kids learn by example, do right and there will be right! Good Luck!
