Michael Jackson's memorial service: His kids remind us that he was more than a celebrity

I wasn't glued to a television to watch the memorial service for the late Michael Jackson. I almost hate to admit that I didn't even remember it was taking place today.

My first glimpse of the coverage was watching a short video of Paris Jackson's emotional words about her father. I felt the tears after about five seconds. And when I saw her big brother, 12-year-old Michael Joseph Jr., gently rest his head on the shoulder of his aunt, Janet Jackson, my heart just ached with sadness for those kids.

Don't even get me started on the photos of little 7-year-old, "Blanket," Prince Michael II, holding a Michael Jackson doll. He looked lost and scared in most of the photos, and this would make complete sense with thousands of people staring at you on a stage while you mourn your dad's death.

But the video and photos are a reminder that despite what we may have thought of his parenting skills, his three children adored him. Sandy Cohen from the Associated Press has a good read about Jackson's kids "emerging from a veil" that you should check out.

No beth H your the one who is nuts. You seem like a very heartless person. So when a fellow college student of mine passed away and I only knew him in passing- I was "nuts" for crying? or when i cried when my favorite musician was taking away suddenly because someone wanted to kill him-i am nuts? I honestly think you just said those things for people to pay attention to you. That is sad.

I always think that the best way to see a man's real personality is to listen to the women and children in his life. Paris is both, and you can hear her now. It's blatantly clear that she mourns him. She cries for him. She loves him. And judging from her 2 brothers' expressions, then they must love him equally too.

Now, if a man is really that evil, can he be loved by 3 innocent hearts so much they cry for him? Don't lie to me about children will always cry for their parents, if Michael is a child-abuser then his children won't mourn him. Children capable of hating too you know, else we won't have troublesome children in some corrective institute that could show you hatred rivalling their adult-counterpart.

That be said, Michael loves children. Ironic, because his childhood is unhappy. I take it he wants to project the perfect childhood through other children, maybe he thought by giving these children perfect childhood then somehow he will be able to make peace with his own childhood.

About the case, please, use the "Innocent until proven guilty" remark.

The truth is, he never proven guilty.

And I don't believe these parents even a second. Why accept the money? What kind of message they send their children, that their body has pricetag somewhere in it, that they can use their body for money?

If it's my children, I won't accept even the total sum or all billionaires money in the world because my children's purity and well-being worth more than that, they only have me as their parent to protect them and it's my duty to show them what integrity means.

Also, strange that the children from well-to-do and wealthy families never fill any accusations at him(he is a star he must have a lot of connections and with connections he surely entertain their children too in his neverland ranch). It's always the not-so-well-to-do who filled accusation. Easy money eh?

Beth, just because you have the emotional range of a teaspoon, does not mean that others cannot feel the loss of an iconic superstar such as Michael Jackson.

All the Anti Michael people, why even comment. No one is listening. No one knew MJ, but MJ. All I do know is that he was the best of the best on stage, no one can top his record. As for the so called self righteous people who want to assasinate his character, ask the mothers/fathers why did they allow children to sleep over Neverland Ranch and why did they take his money and squash the trial. So who is the guilty party. Leave that man alone. The Boogie Man is gone, all of the children in the world are safe now. Go and critcize no more.

Also, does anyone know the accusers? Who are those people. And part of me feels, that is what MJ gets for trying to please white people, black people would not have raked him under the coals. I know it sounds harsh but look @ the whole mess, as well as O.J. white people raked his ass too. That is what they get.

God, people can be so heartless. I agree with this post. those poor kids. Just because their father may have been different, he may have done some odd things, he may not have been perfect, he was still their father, they are still mourning, they are still hurting. God knows when my dad died, I was horribly upset by it, I can only imagine what these guys are going through. People need to grow up.
