I wonder, in a day where us a parents are constantly preached to about internet safety, when has it become okay for a young teens to have a their own laptop. I could probably list of 10 people (friends and family) that fit this case. The young teens wander from room to room in their houses, checking their myspace & facebook pages, browsing the web, countless hours on youtube, and IM'ing friends. I personally don't understand how this is considered okay but it's not my house, my kids or my rules so I don't say anything. Meanwhile in addition to the laptops there are cellphones fit with internet and Ipods and Game Consoles with WiFi. Do we deny buying our kids the cool IPod touch just because it has wi-fi capabilities or the new game consoles because they would go in their room and you have rules against internet in their bedrooms? How is giving them a cell phone with internet any different than a laptop? It almost seems worse to me.

Report AbuseI'm not a parent, but I can understand the concern with giving into all these tech-like devices and wondering what the outcome will be. If I did have teens I certainly would not be comfortable with them having internet access that wasn't monitored by me as a parent. Not that I would feel the need to watch behind them, but as we all know, the internet is not a safe place for naive young girls and boys who don't realize the dangers. All in all, it really is a case by case basis on whether or not parents want their children having all of these gadgets.
