A study says there is no link between the MMR measles vaccine and
autism. This news is unfortunately not likely to solve anyone's
questions about whether or not vaccines are a cause of autism.
What was NOT studied is any affect between thimerosal and autism.
"The study was not designed to address other rumored theories
of autism's cause, such as thimerosal, the much-debated
mercury-based preservative in some other vaccines." (Source)
Also of interest: the study that initially linked MMR
(measles) vaccines to autism was done with 12 children. This new
study was with 25 (it's more complicated than that;
here's a more detailed explanation.)
I admit that I was unaware of the autism/vaccines controversy; I
think it didn't really begin until my children were older. Now that
I've been following it, it seems like there is a surprising lack of
data on both sides. Why not do a study just on thimerosal, for
example? Wouldn't that make more sense?
