Our little miracle

My husband’s daughter & her husband had their first baby this year. Gavin was born on July 25. He wasn’t due until September 16. It was very frightening.

Courtney did everything the doctor told her to do. She was literally the perfect patient. She took all her vitamins, exercised, ate well, rested… Like I said, she was a perfect patient. She went to work like normal on the 25 th . She has a desk job so she saw no need to stop working before her due date was here. I won’t go into details about her actual labor. I’ll just tell you that she began bleeding while she was at work. Her husband picked her up and rushed her to the hospital where they performed an emergency c-section.

We received the call around 4:00 pm. We live in Texas, a solid 17 hour drive from where they live in Georgia. Needless to say we loaded up the car & made that drive. When we saw her in the hospital she said ‘wouldn’t you know I picked today to wear white pants’. Even in her panic her sense of humor remained.

They still don’t know why Gavin made an early appearance. He remained in the hospital for almost a month. He couldn’t keep his body temperature up enough to go home. It was heartbreaking to hear Courtney’s voice. She just wanted her baby home.

Today Gavin is just over three months old and doing very well. When he was born he was right around 4 pounds. Now he’s the size of a normal newborn. We feel so blessed to have him here today. He had his first Halloween and was cute as a button. We are very proud grandparents!
