Parenting poll: Do you make your kid's bed?

My boys sleep in bunk beds with lots and lots of handmade quilts. My older kid rearranges his blankets most mornings to make the bed look slightly assembled.

My younger kid, who is nearly four, digs a messy nest. Why? Because over the course of a day, his bed is a pirate ship, a diesel train, a jet airplane, and a fire engine.

Here's the thing: I'm slightly obsessed with having the beds made in the house. So I straighten the blankets out and such (but only once in the morning).

We know that first kids Sasha and Malia Obama have to make their beds as part of their daily chores.

But what about your kids? Do you make your Little Boo's bed?

I make everyone's bed. I used to nag my hubby about making our bed, as he is the last one out of bed. He would just throw the covers back, all sloppy and messy, so he was fired. My oldest son inherited his dad's bed making skills from his dad, so, he was fired also. My youngest is a bit meticulous and will make his bed all day if you let him, so I make his too.

I don't see what the big deal is about making a bed every morning. It's a little too type A and controlling for my taste. There are more important things in life than a made bed and a sparkling clean house. You should enjoy life, not worry about the small details that don't really mean anything.

I absolutely do not make the kiddos beds. It is part of their before school routine. They have to get dressed, brush their hair, have their back packs packed, and their beds made before they can sit down to breakfast.

I was taught at a young age to make my bed in the morning. I believe it sets the tone for the day and you should do it out of respect for yourself, however making my 4 yr old make his own bed is not something I intend on doing just yet. I am going to wait a couple of years before I make him make his own bed. He needs to take this time to be a kid!

    lffer,

It's not a control thing, it's more about having one thing that's organized and it makes you feel a little better about your day. As SMC said, it's sets the tone for the day. Also? I never said a word about a sparkling clean house! But a nice clean bed? Who doesn't love falling into that every night?!

I agree with you Charlene, I think that having an organized home is a huge reflection on a person as a whole. I know that often, when I am stressed at work or in my personal life/relationships, my home shows it. I make it a point to make my bed every morning. So when I go run the shower, I let the water warm up and make my bed. It takes all of 2 minutes and when I come home that night I feel all the more better about it.

That's exactly why I make the beds Charlene. There is nothing better than to fall into a nicely made bed each night. Besides, my kids bed is the only neat thing in their rooms. LOL!!

I have twin 9 yr old boys, a 4yr old boy and a 15 mt old daughter. I have decided that to me it is about teaching them responsibility and how to take pride in the things they have. I do not make any of my children make their beds, most of the time they just want to because they have cool bedding. I feel everyone needs their own space to do what they want with. The rest of the house is a different story, they have daily chores and a room check once a week. If it is not decent then we go back to them making and picking up their rooms b4 school. For me by giving them the little freedom that they have with their rooms, they like to help more around the house and seem more happy about doing so. Might not work forever though.

The toys on the floor are about to send me to the edge of my sanity. Mom may just have to do a "sweep" of their rooms, if dad would ever take them out for a boys day. LOL!!!
