Parenting poll: What do your kids collect?

We, I mean my kid, wants this baseball card of J.T. Snow.

We, I mean my kid, wants this baseball card of J.T. Snow.

My son just started collecting baseball cards. He's particularly fond of any card featuring old and current players from our local team, the San Francisco Giants, and a now-retired pitcher who inspired our kid's name. And lucky for him, he gets to sift through the hundreds of cards his dad collected when he was a kid. (And the photos taken of players in the '70s? Funniest sight ever.)

I was a baseball fan when I was little, but I usually collected photos of cute players that I could pin on my wall. (My friends are laughing as they read this because even when I pick my Fantasy Baseball team, I'm still all about the cuteness factor. Moving on.) I also collected Hello Kitty trinkets and memorabilia from my favorite bands.

As my son began his interest in baseball cards, I started to wonder if boys still even collect them the way we did back in the day. Some of his friends collect Pokemon cards and others are into WebKinz. I have nieces that collected Polly Pockets and random odds and ends.

So I'm curious: what do your kids collect? And you'd better believe I want to know what you collected as a kid!)

    Everything... I'm not kidding....

Pokemon Cards are pretty popular, but now they wants Bakugon cards (??) and if there is a "card" involved, they want it: Baseball, Bella Sara (yes, the horse cards for girls).

They both have Webkinz and lots and lots and lots and lots of cars, trains and Legos/K'Nex.

But... what has been consistent and even with my seven year old, has not changed to this day... their "Collections" are rocks, twigs, leaves, acorns and various other "nature" things. They actually go outside and say, "Oh, this is good for my Collection."

Luckily they don't really notice when I throw bits and pieces back outside.

We have a 5 year old son. He collects rocks, boxes, toilet paper rolls, empty plastic bottles, tools, I could go on and on but I won't! Anything that could be re-used but is normally trash. Not aormal kid I think! haha

    Let's see...where do I begin? lol

When my son was younger, it was Pokemon cards....that was early elementary school. Hot Wheels cars. Legos.

Now, he's in Middle School. It's Naruto comics, and he buys all sorts of comic coffee-table books ; Fox Trot, Mutts, Pearls Before Swine and Gary Larson, Calvin & Hobbes - - he's a budding cartoonist/comedian.

My daughter, age 9. She collects hotel samples - - soaps, shampoos, body wash. Her Dad travels alot, and that is an easy collection. She doesn't use them, generally likes the containers.

Otherwise, she is fond of snow globes, sea shells, & beads . She likes to do crafts.

My daughter collects Barbies Dolls of the World and Princesses, coins and stamps and anything of Egyptology. My oldest son collects baseball, basketball and football cards, coins and viintage Hot Wheels and specific Lego sets. My youngest son collects basketball and football cards, coins and Star Wars Legos. We also have our share of Beanie Babies that the kids collected when they were younger.

We have a family collection of rocks that we have found on our camping trips and vacations.Have a few very cool fossils - kind of a geeky family.

Rocks. I love the fact that it costs pretty much nothing unless I buy him a crystal or carved stone. That is really rare though because the joy of rock hunting is finding them on your own. He approaches it with a kid's mind though, so any somewhat interesting rock finds it's way to our house. I find myself stepping on pebbles in my stocking feet, cleaning them out of my washer after washing his jeans, and negotiating how many little rocks he can bring home instead of the boulder he's rolling to the car.

My son used to collect Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. He still has them but doesn't really play with them since he's in high school. He had close to 300 at last count. I have to admit, I like finding unusual ones so I have a tendency to still buy them for him even though he's really too old for them. My son has everything from a Porshe Cayenne to a hearse.

Our special needs son collects toys. Stuffed animals mainly, next comes cars and trucks, and a variety of noisemaking toys.

We're just leaving the manga collection stage, THANK THE GODS.

At around $9.99 per book, we have a collection here that is probably worth more than the Gutenberg Bible. Although equally hard to understand.

    Kid1 collects rocks and buttons.

Kid2 couldn't care less about collecting anything.

Kid3 collects hot wheels and used car parts. Seriously, he has his own storage area in his Papa's secondary garage.
