Potty Training

Ok so here is my other problem with my challenging 3 year old. He is not even close to being trained and we have been trying since before he was 2. He will go when told to go on the potty with a lot of whining, but won't go on his own at all. He just uses the pull ups. He understands the whole concept but still just says "I don't want to" Any secrets I have not read about or tried? Please help. I can't afford to keep him in pull ups anymore!

Buy diapers, if he wets his pull up, he has to wear a diaper the rest of the day. He will cry and protest, but it will probably work. It worked with my daughter.

You can also try a Chuck E Cheese reward calender, you can print them from their website. If they go 2 wks of being dry, you mark each day on the calendar, they get 10 free tokens.

I hid the pull-ups from my daughter and told her we ran out and she would have to be a big girl. We never looked back!

We just took the pull ups away completely when I potty trained both my boys. Pull ups are nothing more than diapers marketed to older kids.

You may have to clean up after him for a few days but if he is already partially PT'd, then it should only be 2 or 3 "accidents" and you should be good to go.

The only other thing, and I bring this up only because one of my kids only has 1 kidney so I'm paranoid, bring him to the doc and have his urine tested to be sure there are no kidney or bladder problems keeping him from "knowing" when he has to go.

But taking the pull ups away completely should help a lot!

I am having the same issue with my nearly 3 year old. I have also heard the regular underwear suggestion, I'm just not sure what to do at night? or in daycare? HELP!!!

I thought maybe underwear was the answer, I just hate cleaning up after him. I have the issue with preschool also. If I put him in pull ups at school, then I'm not being very consistent. I tried the underwear one day in school and he didn't even last an hour till they had to change his whole outfit. It's kind of embarrassing for me and my son. I'm going to try undies all day today because he is at home and we will see what happens... PRAY FOR ME PLEASE :)
