Potty Training Gone Bad

Ok so I got a dog and she is about 5 months old I've had her since she was 2 months old. Ever since I brought her home I have been trying to potty train her. She is a pom-bichon and she is the most stubborn dog I have ever owned. She refuses to go to the bathroom outside. I have tried everything. I have tried taking her out literally every 10 minutes so she got the idea. I have tried putting a bell by the back door to teach her to ring it when she has to go. I have tried putting her in her kenel for punishment after she pottys in the house, and I always put her right outside after disciplining her about the pottying so she understands what I mean. I have tried giving her treats when she does do it, and even a reward wont keep this dog from going inside. I am at my witts end I really need some advice asap!!! Please

When you say kennel, do you mean a crate? Or an outdoor kennel?

Crate training is one of the best ways to potty train a dog, but she shouldn't be put in her crate as punishment.

I recommend this book by Ian Dunbar called "Before and After Getting Your Puppy: The Positive Approach to Raising a Happy, Healthy, and Well-Behaved Dog"... it's awesome for teaching a dog potty training and it will teach you how to use the crate with her.

We crate trained out pup as soon as we brought her home. She was in crate alot for the first bit of time to help her feel safe in her new home and to help her refrain from using the bathroom in the house. The crate is supposed to be her "safe place" to be. She won't want to use the bathroom in her special place. Make sure she does not have too much room in the crate as that can lead to accidents inside the crate. When you leave be sure to put her in the crate. We do keep a puppy pad in one designated place in our house for those days when the weather is terrible. Ginger loves her crate, she get's in it without being told to and when we are getting ready to leave she gets in and lays down because she knows that is where she is supposed to be. This was the first time I have ever crate trained a dog and has by far been the most effective.
