True Mom Confession:
I debunked the Santa myth last year, when my youngest child begged for the truth at 7 years old (and then begged for a Wii game from me if not from Santa). While I can safely say that our Christmas is still delightful, it is devoid of mythical fleece covered creatures and flying animals. But in these troubling times, I was happy to discover that the magic for those kids whose parents haven’t spilled the beans yet, is being kept alive by kind hearted postal workers who do their best to write back to each and every child who sends a letter to Santa care of The North Pole.
I’m not sure this is happening in the overcrowded and understaffed LA post offices near my house, but they’re definitely taking care of this in South Florida, so says an article in a local paper I happened to stumble upon while searching for last minute xmas gifts and online shopping deals.
Turns out the postal workers decided that a short and sweet postcard – adhering to magic but with a small dose of reality - urging kids to be “good” but also cautioning them that their gifts might not make in on Christmas morning due to limited space in Santa’s sled.
For a nice dose of holiday cheer - here are a few samples of requests and sentiments sent to St. Nick:
- I want Legos and world peace.
- I want a beautiful girlfriend inside a present.
- I want a T-Rex.
- Give Rudolph and the other reindeers a carrot for me!
And my personal favorite:
- We have been listening to our parents some of the time.
Does your post office play Santa? Do you have a favorite letter to santa you can share???? Please let us know!
