This photo of my daughter Ramona captures a wistful but joyous moment this past October at a local farm outside of Portland, Oregon. This snapshot memorializes her two front teeth, which she yanked out herself the following week. (As you can see, they're barely hanging on in the picture!)
My almost seven-year-old is hovering somewhere in that space between big girl and little girl. She was "too grown up" to pose for pictures with the animals at the petting zoo or even with a big pile of pumpkins. But she wasn't too old to experience some spontaneous silliness in the company of some amazing red leaves and a clear fall sky. I will treasure this photo for years to come.
