Three kids, three really different people

It’s amazing to me how different my three children are.  I think that I would have to have 10 pregnancies, 10 deliveries, 10 post-partum experiences and raise 10 children to get two alike.  Even going into labor on each of my three children was wildly different.  (Let’s put it this way: my waters were broken for 3 days before I noticed ON MY THIRD BABY.)  Apparently, I was really sweaty!! Hmm.

GraceAvalon is the Nancy Kerrigan of the family – a performing perfectionist.  A super-caretaker, GraceAvalon is the epitome of little Mommy, she wants you to be happy.  With a drop of a hat, she’ll burst into song, do an interpretive dance of happiness or plan a party to celebrate everything from the simple to the silly (“Hooray! You fed the dogs! Let’s put up streamers, get the balloons!”)

As a first grader, GraceAvalon has become a well known entity at school – all the teachers know her and smile at her enthusiasm. “Oh the energy that girl has!”

My middle baby (almost, nearly, just about 4-year-old) Orion Corinne is sassy, brassy and just a lovely kid.  (On the celebrity comparison chart, she’s our Marilyn Monroe – her breathy, unintentionally sexy singing of “Happy Birthday” is a killer.)

A little more cautious than her big sister, Orion has made an art of being sassy.  She’s not rude – mostly, it’s more that she seems beyond her years in her responses and body motions. (Speaking animatedly with her hands one morning, she explained to me that ‘a solid gold toilet’ was a completely impractical thing for me to ask Santa for, complete with hand motions.)

When we go into Starbucks, Orion is the one that confidently and competently tells the barista “Tall, 1%, 4 Splenda, no whip, foamy Mocha” and then orders herself a ‘coffee’ (kids hot chocolate) for herself and her brother.

This brings me to baby number three – Pirate.

Ooh baby. This little man has my heart. (And the heart of every woman that crosses his path!)

A (mostly) go-with-the-flow kinda guy, Pirate is just a charming little lover. I must catch a dozen blown kisses a day – not to mention the snuggles, hugs and loves that he bestows on me and everyone else in his vicinity.

While we are currently suffering from a pretty serious case of the 2-year-old ‘attitude’, I am pretty sure that we are going to get past the word “NOOOO” by the time he is 10.

The funniest thing about Pirate is what he feels is the epitome of cool… Definitely the little brother of two VERY girly, girls, Pirate’s favorite thing is getting all dressed up like a ‘pin-cess’ (Princess), complete with dress, hair-pretty and nails painted.

It’s always hysterical to catch the looks of the people we pass and the nods from the moms that know – Every kid has their own thing!
