User post: How old is too old to have a baby: 66 Year Old British Woman 8 Months Pregnant?

In a world where the perfect
age to be a mother is disputed, many women decide to wait to have
babies while others jump in at the first chance. Bristol Palin
promotes abstinence and Octo-Mom promotes baby making now a
British woman decides to have a baby at the ripe age of 66.
Elizabeth Adeney has told the press
"I don't have to defend what I have done. It's between
me and my baby and no one else,'' and "It's not my
physical age that is important; it's how I feel
inside."
In a world where the decisions you make are entirely up to you to
make and the doctor you confide in, should we even be surprised to
hear news of the like?
The oldest reported mother is an Indian woman who gave birth last
year at the age of 70. The husband said he didn't care
how much money it cost as long as they had an heir.
Many thought I was too young to have a baby but nature has a
different book it goes by. When nature is taken out of the picture
and science allows women as old as 70 to produce a child, are we
not messing with nature itself? Who is to look after the child when
the mother ages and dies? I understand people can die at any point
but the odds are stacked against a 66 year old to see the child
mature past 18.
Are there no limits on the use of in vitro practices? Does money
talk all of the time?

I laugh at the first person that said she would never have a baby after 30. My friends all had their babies after 30 and even in their early 40's and they are better mothers for it. Leah, keep your religion beliefs out of it. We are talking about real life here not myth. To each is own is right.

Personally I think if you are past menopause then your too old to have a child.. but that's just me... I feel sorry for the child as their mother won't be as active as a younger mother can be with them.
Allie... I didn't want to have my first child after the age of 30 either, but it looks like the circumstances are going to make it that way, so unless I have a child in the next 2 years.. and I am one of the "lucky" irregular ones... and you attack someones faith and then say to each is own? Their faith is a real part of their life which molds their world view, what difference is it to you if they reason using their faith? As long as they aren't throwing stones (both figuratively and physically) it shouldn't matter.

Our son was born when I was 28 and had been married just over 2 years. What worries me about moms in their 60's, is that both mother and child may have health issues due to the mother's age.

i think it is wrong...think of the child as someone lost her mother at 25. I think it is so wrong and my mom had me at 22.. My mother will never see me get married, have a child just be there for me. I know how I feel losing my mom at 25 but 66 she may not be around for that child.. It's brings me to tears.

i don't think "god" has anything to do with it. it's more like "overpopulation" that's the problem. there are children who are suffering, she wants to bring another in the world, unnaturally. and so close to the end of her life? she'll die before that child had children. thanks for bringing more suffering to the world.
