What kid's clothes do you spend the most cash on?
editor
There's a good discussion going on at this post about
practical, unsexy clothes for toddler girls had some fantastic comments. Along with great suggestions for where to shop, several comments also brought up the cost of kid clothes. Why spend twelve bucks on a shirt if a toddler will outgrow it in a few months? Or $20 for a pair of shoes for a kid who sprouts up like a beanstalk?
I'm a big fan of Target (when I can avoid the lure of those other 10 aisles that I have no business even strolling down). I pick up a stack of shirts and shorts/pants, socks and undies for my boys and I usually top out at $100 for a few months worth of clothes. We also spend alot of time being crafty so I don't care as much of a shirt that costs five bucks gets stained. It just becomes the painting shirt.
But when it comes to shoes, I am not thrifty. I believe in buying solid, well-fitting shoes that are sturdy and made of materials that keep my boys' tootsies nice and comfortable. That's a long way of saying I'll pay more than twenty bucks for my sons' shoes. I've chatted with other moms who feel the same way...splurge on shoes (and jackets...buy big and they can last years) but keep the rest within a budget.
So what item of clothing (or footwear) do you spend the most money on for your kids?

I think this topic is kind of silly. Its kind of like the “haves” VS. the “have nots“. If you have the money to spend $100 on kid shoes then what’s the problem. If its going to put you in a financial bind buy something cheaper. Toddlers have no concept of popularity or money spent. They pick things out because of the color.
Before I buy something expensive or go out to a fancy restaurant I ask myself how many hours do I have to work to pay for it and then is it worth it. If you question it you probably don’t need it.

I think that it's more about the comfort than the price. I love stride right for my daughter. They are Dillard's and are on sale. I was able to by my daughter 50 dollar shoes for 12 bucks. She is two. But she runs plays and never slips or has blisters because of cheap shoes. The shoe bargains are out there just shop around. I hate the jelly shoes. She got some cute pink ones from my big sis. My daughter wore them for less than an hour and had a blister on her little foot.

Oh... I spoil my girls with clothes... I do love Target though! I love summertime because everything is cute... I'll spend a lot for pictures... and school clothes. Shoes... I buy New Balance and Nike tennis shoes, flip flops from anywhere and everywhere, and all winter shoes... boots, dressy shoes ect. from everywhere... They usually don't wear the same shoe everyday... So, I buy what's cute and comfortable...I will spend $100 for one pair of shoes per child once and year... because I have a 8 year old and a 4 year old they don't last very long, they grow out of them very fast... But they have to have good tennis shoes... and boots... you can get cute dress shoes and flip flops anywhere though.

Honestly and though I have no children for now, I feel that paying anything past a necessary 20 or so bucks is way too high and expensive. So I definitely would not be raising my kids to expect the pricey stuff. I mean after all, that stuff though may be nice with the name brand all over it. Really does not last long and gets destroyed much more quickly. So its best to teach kids about the clearance racks and much cheaper clothes that they can be creative with themselves then buying jeans or shirts that are all ripped up or whatever for 120 bucks or something.

I usually get a good raincoat, a good winter coat, good hiking boots/rainboots(hiking usually over 50). I shop at Ross a bunch and get good deals on clothes there. My son will only wear skate shoes(like Vans), but they tend to last him a year. Then we rotate his old ones to play shoes. I try to bargain shop as much as possible. In the summer I tend to buy cheaper stuff because we are outside so much. If stuff is in good shape I send it on to my brother(single dad of 3).
