What's the worst Mother's Day gift you've ever received?

Moms have different ideas about what we want to do and what we'd like to receive on Mother's Day. Some of us would just be content to not lift a finger all day. Others would be thrilled to receive a nice trinket. (Need an idea? Check out our picks at Shine!)

But let's face it. There comes a time in every mom's life where you receive a stinker of a Mother's Day gift. Where you smile politely on the outside but your innards are slightly churning with a mix of bitterness and amazement that someone would even consider such a gift.

Like Nataly Kogan from Work-it, Mom! who told me that one Mother's Day her boss gave her a guest pass to his fancy gym. Says Nataly, "One, a boss should not be giving me gifts on Mother's Daay and two, a guest pass I can use once so I can drool over this amazing gym  for the rest of my life? I don't think so."

And yes, her boss was male.

Or what about to just enjoy the goodness of being a mom to cute little kids? No such luck for Heather Flett of the blog Rookie Moms. "Last year, I had a two month old and a two year old so all I wanted was the "fun" parts of mothering: playing, cuddling, and silliness without any of the tantrums and poopy diapers. Guess what I got? That's right, tantrums and poopy diapers. There's always this year!"

What's the worst Mother's Day gift you've ever received? And if you can remember back, what's the worst gift you've given a mom?

I got a toaster for mothers day once from my ex husband, yes it took on 4 pieces of bread, and it was chrome, a very lovely toaster. But that may be one of the causes he's the ex-husband!

This mother's day, my husband decided it would be nice to give me AND our daughter an digital key ring. It is one thing to give me a gift I do not understand, nor will I use, but to negate the importance of my job "mom" and give a gift to our daughter, who never remembers special occassions anyway! I sure hope he gets me a gift certificate to the spa!

I watched my wife fall flat on her face while ironing one morning. So, being a kind, obsevand husband for the new millenium I bought her a new ironing board that weekend. I forgot it was Mothers's Day.

    HI,

I've got to disagree with your list. OK 3/5ths of it at least. I agree that I don't want the household cleaning tools or the cold, but the other three items are right up my alley.

PS-I don't think it was on mother's day, but when my son accidently set up my avitar as a guy and then could not figure out how to fix it, I think that ranks as a pretty bad "gift".

As a single mother of 2, I'd have to say my worst gift(s) are everything. I'm not a gift getter always a giver. But my favorites are always the little hand-made gifts that I get from the kids making them at school or just on their own. That's love!

The worst gift I ever received for Mother's Day wasn't really a gift but the week before my husband decided to quit smoking so for Mother's Day I got the brunt of his withdrawl syptoms. Yeah!!!!

One year my ex-husband got one flower arrangement to be "shared" between his mother and me.

He's an "ex" for a reason!
