Where is my instruction book?

I am a first time mother and she is six years old she seems to be having a power stuggle with me and won't listen to me and throws fits when she doesn't get her way. Everyone in my family says she is spoiled. I say kids don't come with a instuction book, and they just shake there heads. What should I do I have to change her additude toward me?
