Would you let your kid wear a favorite clothing item for 1,581 straight days?

I find this story about 12-year-old cutie David Witthoft to be adorably endearing.

David is -- or "was"? -- a big fan of now-retired Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre. There is conflicting info on whether this happened on his birthday or for Christmas, but either way, he was given a jersey bearing the name and number of his favorite NFLer.

He loved it so much the he wore it for 1,581 consecutive days. The shirt came off on April 23, 2008 -- the day David turned 12.

It appears the kid sported a t-shirt underneath jersey, which means it didn't have to get washed everyday (phew!). But as you can see from the photo, it's faded by lots of wearin' love.

Young david's new shirt? A red one from Nike. No word on if he's trying for a new record.

What are some of your kid's favorite clothing items they cling to? And how long have you let them wear a certain article of clothing?

I cannot even imagine! I guess if he was ever lost, his parents never had to think twice about his clothing description. Plus, his photo would be a perfect match too. I hope he is not given a speedo that he becomes this attached to.

I'd like to say "no" that's just wrong -- but some days I'm just too dang lazy to care! Josh has put on a t-shirt after his bath, worn it to bed and then all the next day and to bed the next night.

And you know, you gotta pick your battles. Clothing is not one I care to fight -- but I do prefer the clothes to be clean (although it's not always required) and I would have hoped the shirt would fall apart before hitting the 1000 day mark!

Proof that you have to pick your battles. I have to think that clothing choice probably isn't a worthwhile one to fight. So yeah, I'd probably not bat an eye.

According to my mother-in-law, my husband would only wear blue clothing during his entire 3rd grade year. If it wasn't blue, he wasn't putting it on...which made me think,"Gosh, what a brat!" My husband turned out to be a nice guy, so I guess I would just roll with it.

My daughter had 5 t-shirts all the same. She wore a different one everyday but I was so sick of seeing her in them green t-shirts but it was not worth an argument over. She eventually moved on to black t-shirts.

My daughter clinged to my old flannel shirt...one a guy used to wear. And she gave me her leather skirt in return. We swapped clothes back and forth a lot.

O yes...what does she do today? She works in a NUCLEAR PLANT!

Solving the problem of having to wash the article of clothing daily I purchased several shirts so I can wash "it" only a few times a week. My son isn't that obsessed with his clothes but he still has his favorites.
