3 Things We Secretly Love About Weddings

We're entering another week at the heights of wedding season. We have to admit as much as there may be gripes about the logistics of getting to and from a wedding location and budgeting for what to wear and what to give as a gift there are three things we absolutely adore about weddings.

1. Personalized vows. There's little else as touching as watching a couple recite vows that they wrote that have personal meaning. It's bound to be the case that one or both of the parties on the altar is going to break down in one big love fest while reading the words, so carefully chosen and written, to their partner, which inevitably lets loose a flood of tears among the friends and loved ones watching.

2. That look on his face. We love the look on the face of the groom just as the bride starts to walk down the aisle. There's so much in that look – nervous feelings, feelings of love, feelings of insecurity and utter happiness. We could look a trillion times and never get bored with it.

3. Live music. And after the wedding there is nothing better than a live band to dance to. We know it can be less expensive to get a d.j.  But a live band makes the whole wedding and day more of a live, in-the-moment experience.

I agree about the personalized vows--they're always so moving. Another thing I love is seeing the parents of the bride and groom so happy and proud.

Kinda bummed we didn't have a live band at my wedding.

I like meeting all of the groom's friends, they're often quite cute.

Oh I love the decorations and the cake. Yum! It's always fun to go to a party.

Also, love checking out the dress, seeing what crazy things the flower girl/ringbearer will do, and eating awesome food!

I like the band, the dance floor, and the open bar. sometimes some of the guests.

The first two points are spot on! The last one however, I have been to a wedding with a band AND another with a DJ. Both have their flaws. If the band is good, sure, the live element is really amazing BUT, sometimes you just want to hear that certain disco/pop/whatever tune and the version the band plays JUST doesn't cut it. Sorry, a band sometimes is not the right choice.

I'll go with personalized vows ... but the groom's look? Seriously?

I'm sorry, but that looks probably means "oh s---. that's the only ass i'm going to be getting for the rest of my life."

Agree Nils - sometimes a DJ just trumps a live brand. I think the personal vows are fascinating as are people's reactions to them. Some people are so turned off by such an emotional overshare that it's just entertaining.

I definitely agree about the look on the groom's face! But, you left out the BEST part...seeing the beautiful bride make her grand entrance!
