7 Ways Male Birth Control Will Change Everything

Researchers in China may have succeeded in developing what people have dreamed about for centuries: effective, reversible male birth control that has no serious side effects (at least in the short-term).

Consisting of 500 mg of testosterone undecanoate in tea seed oil, this experimental contraceptive injection was tested on 1,045 healthy males, aged 20-45 years old, for 30 months. Each study participant had fathered a child within the two years before the study began. Their female partners were between 18 and 38 years old. All had normal medical histories.

The study found that, like the pill, the effectiveness of the injection was near 99%.

If this male hormonal contractreption is further developed and succeeds in reaching the market, how will it change the world? We've thought of a few ways.

1. Lots more more drunken men in bars saying: "Don't worry, I'm on the shot."

2. Lots more pregnant women everywhere muttering to their girlfriends: "He said he was on the shot."

3. Sensitive New Age Guys the world over finally able to prove that, yes, baby, if they could, they would be the ones to take the hormones.

4. The faster spread of diseases we'd prefer not to have. Sorry. We had to say it.

5. Happy, irresponsible bachelors everywhere no longer able to use the excuse of being "trapped" into parenthood.

6. Iconic Heart song, "All I Want To Do Is Make Love To You," no longer relevant.

7. With simultaneous invention of the time-travel machine, 90% of us not born.

I just hope it doesn't screw up mens hormones like the depo shot seems to do with so many women (I was one of them).

I find this article VERY OFFENSIVE, OMG, no side effects for men! What about the side effects women endure, I say about damn fcken time that men take birth control too! All the stupid reasons listed above are all reasons that currently exist, it is just not convenient enough for a man to take pills, but women have to endure it? How disgusting.

The reason this article is so offensive is not because it cites the lack of side-effects associated with this medication, but because it takes the pronatalist view that birth control is bad, that it promotes irresponsibility in our society, and the implication that 90% of people alive today were conceived against the will of their parents.

The fact is that birth control allows for parents to choose when and if they can afford to feed and clothe another child while not sacrificing their physical bond, and it prevents those who are unprepared or unwilling to become parents from raising and neglecting unwanted children.

Most men would be grateful to have the option of reversible birth control so that they can be active participants in planning their families instead of foisting the burden on their partners alone.

You know None, every time I see one of your posts it's something angry and hateful. It's kind of sad actually.

On topic, men have wanted their own birth control pill variant almost since women got theirs. The problem until now seemed to be that there was just too wide of a range of testosterone levels to compensate for compared to estrogen levels. I hope this does work and who knows, maybe it too will be concentrated into a pill form eventually but it's good to see things moving closer.
