A Doggie Dilemma
user
My favorite advice
columnist,
MissTruth Hurts, deals with a doggie dilemma in her column
today:
Q: I've had my dog Sweetie
for three years. I've had my boyfriend for six months. I love
my dog. I love my BF. My BF doesn't love my dog. And my dog
positively loathes my BF. We were in bed the other night and
Sweetie bit him in the ass at the most inopportune moment. BF says,
"Sweetie goes or I go." I'm leaning towards keeping
Sweetie but my friends say I'm nuts. The BF is gorgeous,
talented, brave, sober, well-off, and worships the ground I walk
on. Sweetie? He's truly been my best friend. What would you
do?

A: Dogs over dudes my friend.
Dogs are more loyal, loving, and faithful, and generously lavish
their owners with affection. They come when they're called,
they like to spoon and cuddle, and they always stay the night. And,
let's not forget dogs are a good judge of character. If your
dog is not digging your dude, then maybe he's onto something. I
would trust your companion's instincts on this one instead of
your hormones. And, besides, if the guy really loved you, he
wouldn't ask you to make this heart-breaking choice. What kind
of guy makes his girl get rid of something she loves? Especially a
little pooch?! A good guy and a true animal lover would never put
you in this position, and his ultimatum shows what kind of person
he really is. Put your beau up for adoption and tell your
girlfriends to stop thinking so desperately.

Definatly keep your dog!! I agree, any man that would make you get rid of your dog can't be all that great! There has to be a way to compromise! If your boyfriend really does worship the ground you walk on, he would worship lil Sweetie too!! I suggest the show "It's me or the dog" I think it's on TLC or Animal Planet.. It's this great British lady who fixes dogs AND their owners! Maybe you will find an episode that applies to your situation. Good Luck!!

Yea, I would definitely agree with these ladies!! Simply because he sounds like a great guy and all but if you get of the dog (your true love) what will he make you get rid of next for him? It might be telling your mom she cant come over for dinner when hes not there or getting rid of one of your close friends cause he dont like them!! The dog is gonna like whoever you want it to like and do whatever you say! (mostly)

I agree with OC Runner, no man should ever ask you to choose between him or a dog, that is so pathetic. I'm sure it is frustrating to have a yappy snappy dog around all the time, but there are ways to work it out. Keep in mind, the dog depends on you, you made the decision to get a dog and from that day forward you are committed to it's well being, abandoning it is unacceptable. An easy fix would be simple dog training classes involving the three of you to gain mutual respect.
Another thought, if he is so willing to walk away from your relationship over a dog, I think you need to reconsider just how much you mean to him.
Good luck!

*sigh* Better yet, come up with a compromise. Something like "I won't keep the dog in the room while we're doing things so that he won't think you are killing me and bite your ass."
All this ditch the boy and keep the dog stuff is silly. If the dog has a problem with the boy, make sure the dog isn't around the boy. Also make sure the boy knows that you love said dog and that he has to deal if he wants to keep you.
Compromise... It's the word of the day.
OY! The idea of wanting the boyfriend to worship sweetie... Yeah, right. Just because you like something doesn't mean the other person has to. Dog, food, car or anything.

The ultimatum is bad, but the dog should also never have bitten in the first place. It sounds to me like the dog needs discipline and the boyfriend was probably said something in the heat of anger that shouldn't have been said.

I honestly cant beleive this is even a question?!!! Boyfriend for 6 months and your thinking of keeping him because he is hot! Wow! Obviously the dog doesnt mean that much to you if you are thinking of trading her in for your boyfriend. I personally wouldnt give my dog up for anyone and if he really cared about you he would never say that to you. What a jack ass!

Dogs are a better judge of character than any person every could be. Whenever my late dog, Holly, had a bad vibe about someone she let me know. And she was always right. ALWAYS!!! A dog has never sent me the wrong message, hurt me, lied to me, put me down, used me or left me. People do, have and always will. Fact of life.
Stick with the dog.

If you cannot find a trainer to work with your dog's behavior issues and find out how to establish peace between the two of them, I'd say goodbye to the boyfriend. Or split your time between the two of them. I could never own a dog that didn't get along with people, but I don't think I could give the dog up either.
