Are Male Stereotypes Ruining Our Husbands and Fathers?

The Stereotypes to Men Are Just As Damaging

Ladies, we get hopping-mad when people try to stereotype us, especially to some June Cleaver/Stepford Wife look-alike.  This article which had topped Shine for quite some time now shows us that.

So why are women so quick to do the same thing to men?  It's time to stop treating our men like overweight, beer-drinking, apathetic losers.

How many times have you seen men of today sold out to 'role models' such as our dear friend Homer Simpson and various fathers from TV sitcoms?  When did the loving, caring daddies from Full House turn into slur-making couch potatoes?

While Homer does have his good moments, such as doing pretty much anything to make Lisa happy, a penchant for laziness and irresponsibility overshadows his good points for the most part.

What is this telling our husbands and fathers? Is this what society really thinks of today's men?  As a newlywed, I would never tolerate this kind of sluggishness from my Hubby.  I would like to think that these characters were the extremes--those comic dress-ups of the downfalls of society made ridiculous to make us laugh.  Hopefully, most men and women wouldn't tolerate this from themselves or their spouse.

I'd really like some input--from both sexes.  How did we get to this stereotype?  Do you think it's damaging to this generation of husbands?  Do you think the kids of the next generation will grow up with the idea that "that's just how dads are"?  Would you expect more of your husband, no matter how fathers were portrayed on television?  Tell me what you think of the stereotype in general....and how we can get past portraying our men as sluggards.

Stereotypes are here to stay. As bad as I fight to not fit them, there is always an a$$hole who is fighting for the opposite, just like when real women get mistaken for hoes sometimes. It's like a deep down blissful ignorance that srtetches across generations. Most People don't take the time out to think or they only think about matters of little to none importance. The funny thing about being a man is that you'll get more praise for fitting into a stereotype than fighting against one.
