Are some Police Officers as Innocent as they Portray?

Browsing through the MSN tonight I found an article that was both interesting and disgusting.  I went to NY Times to actually read the article since MSN had redirected me.  I am not sure if any one has seen the article or not but I will give you a short summary of it.  In NYC a man was assaulted by a police officer (while two other police officers looked on) in a Subway during the day, and this was no regular assault.  The man, Michael Mineo, was tackled and handcuffed then one of the officers shoved his baton repeatedly up Michael's anus. OMG!!!!!!! Are you freakin for real.  The poor man was handcuffed and could not defend himself, plus if he did it would appear that he was resisting arrest.  The police officer gave him a ticket for disorderly conduct, the ticket said that Mineo would have to appear in court on January 2008.  The other two officers did not assist in the assault, but they did nothing to stop it either.  Luckily, all three officers are now facing charges.  For those interested here is the article:

Ok here is another article of corrupted police officers.  This time it wasn't just one or three, it was 15.

Seriously, I thought when a someone took the job as a police officer it was to do what is right by law, not to encourage those that constantly want to break it.  I have always had pride for our men in blue, and I am not saying that all officers are corrupt, but come on.  Why become a police officer if you are going to abuse that power?  You could have done that all on your own and not started giving officers a bad rep.  That is what has happened here.  The officers who actually put their lives on the line to protect the innocent and to make this a better and safer place for all, these guys risk the chance of losing their lives because something happened to someone and now they all think cops are corrupt.  This world is just falling apart. It seems the insanity will never end.  Please don't think that I am naive either, I know that there is wrong in the world, I do watch the news and see countries falling apart. What is your opinion on these two articles?

I agree with you 100% the job doesn't give anyone the right to break the law all Officers are not like that but the few bad apples make use all look bad.
