New Moon beauty Ashley Greene (she plays Alice Cullen in the series) recently shared her thoughts on this with me.
"I think every girl appreciates being called sexy," said Greene, who graces the new issue of Maxim magazine, "But, it's all about the way a guy says it—it should be a compliment, not a pickup line."
Wow, so true! The difference is that a pickup line feels insincere. I think that honesty is a key component of a great compliment.
Here’s my advice: If a guy comes up to you with a less-than-stellar first sentence, give him a break. Usually, he’s just really nervous and his line about your “really shiny shoes” has more to do with his anxiety than anything else. Give him a few minutes to open up and relax. If he’s still spurting superficial lines 10 minutes later, you have my permission to excuse yourself to the bathroom.
