Date night without the date

user

I heard this exchange recently, I cannot say where exactly:

Context: a babysitter is on the way over to watch the kids -- it is officially date night.

Wife (looking chic) to Husband (all done up) : "You're gonna think this is really funny."

Husband: "What are you talking about?"

Wife: "I think I actually accidentally arranged for the sitter to come NEXT week. Not today."

Husband: "You mean she's not coming in 10 minutes?"

Wife: "No. I feel kinda dorky."

Husband: "Oh."

Wife: "Let's get the kids to bed ASAP and then order dinner."

Husband: "Wow, funny." (Has already cracked a beer.)

Uh, this is a much preferred than the alternative -- forgetting that it's date night and not having planned something superifically romantilicious.
