HEAVY PETTING: Bird's mating call sounds like a chainsaw and more

My boy sent me this amazing video of David Attenborough kickin' it with the lyre, an Australian bird known for its uncanny ability to mimic not only the mating calls of other birds, but other sounds it hears as well. In this case, guy also does chainsaws, car alarms and camera shutters. PIMP much!?

Of course, as crazy as all this is (watch the video, you really have to see and hear it to believe it), is it just me or does it seem kind of shameful that this majestic little guy has been exposed to the sound of trees being cut down? If this bums you out too, check out what the World Wildlife Fund is doing to help fight deforestation and preserve biodiversity and see how you can get involved. Um, peace.

That was one of them most remarkable things I have ever heard in my life!!!!! How sad a commentary on modern life when it imitates an actual chain saw! This bird is brilliance in both talent and beauty. How bizarre and wonderful.

I'm skeptical; it's an advertisement after all. I don't disagree with the message. Fighting deforestation and preserving biodiversity is important. I just don't think this bird can mimic a chainsaw. Don't believe everything you see or hear, folks.

It's not an ad. It's a clip from the BBC show! For real.

But... um... I never heard anything about it being an ad...

One more reason to get out to the zoos and check'em out before another species fades into obscurity. Hey, why not give a donation while you're there?? Mother Earth has been good to us, let's be good to Her................. Peace!

That's really awesome but also sad. A bird that is imitating a chainsaw is a key indicator that we are overstepping our bounds in the lumber industry. I have definitely become more eco-minded within the last year. I have reusable bags for shopping and only buy recycled paper products. We need to start doing everything we can to reduce consumption and waste. We have the technology, why not use it.
