Once again, it's time for a blog that goes between the covers in the most literal sense!
Right now, my unsexy read that I carry on the subway to look smart is How Fiction Worksby James Woods, which is fascinating but not exactly risque or scandalous. So, for my required serving of scandal, I'm reading Gilding Lily, by Tatiana Boncompagni.
Basically, as you can tell from the sumptuous dress on the cover, if not from the mellifluous name of the author, the book totally follows in the Manolo-treaded path of Sex and the City and toward the altar of frothily fun and bitchily vindictive decadence. While there's not much sex per se, there's certainly scandal as the novel uncovers the down and dirty of the secret lives of socialites in the form of an spunky, not Stepford, young married mom named Lily Bartholemew who finds herself in a brave new world she can't begin to unravel-until she begins to write about it for newspapers.
Anyway, this is a total fun, guilty pleasure that bears absolutely no resemblence to my life, but is a total great escape. You know, when you want to get under the covers.
