How To Date a (Real-Life) Vampire

These days, it seems, everyone wants to bed a vampire. Forget Bram Stoker's Count Dracula, a hideous foreigner intent on taking the life and the virtue of nineteenth-century English ladies. Today's vampires, like True Blood's Bill Compton and Twilight's Edward Cullen, are portrayed as crush-worthy hunks. Their combination of unearthly beauty, perfect chivalry and dangerous nature make them irresistible to women.

Bill, Edward and co. are the stuff of fiction, but there is, in fact, a community of people who identify as vampires and existed long before the current pop culture craze. So what's it like to date a real-life vampire?

Feeding is not inherently sexual, but it can certainly have an erotic element. While many vampires have a romantic or sexual relationship with their donor (or donors), even more find donors among trusted friends or social networks. Donor-vampire bonds often reside somewhere between platonic friendship and romantic relationship.

Crystalis, 32, from Phoenix, describes herself as a "hybrid" vampire, meaning that she can feed on either blood or energy. According to her there are, "a surprisingly high number of people that are enthralled by the concept of being fed from." Vampires do not take on new donors lightly. Blood feeding, in particular, requires a great deal of trust, and donors must first get screened for diseases.

Diss, 35, is a blood donor from Switzerland who shares a romantic relationship with her vampire. She explained how the vampire/donor relationship creates vulnerability for both parties. "The vampire trusts the donor with sensitive knowledge about them, and the donor trusts the vampire to injure their body with blades or needles."

Freaking weirdos. Get out and get some sun for Christsakes, and then get a real life and stop messing with make believe.

When I was teenager in the early 90's in slc the whole gothic thing was quite popular running around in black clothes pale skin black hair getting your eye teeth capped with longer points just stupid stuff like that (although i had a boyfriend who had longer eye teeth naturaly and girls loved it when he bit them because he left two perfect bite markes on their neck for days which i thought were tacky no thx) the vampire thing goes in and out every few years give it a few months it will be gone again soon.

They really do exist. The last one I met bit my pockets and tried to steal my soul, but she couldn't steal my heart trimmed in silver carved in gold. I broke free from her hole. I even staked her with my pole and killed this B!@#$ too many times for me to break down and fold. As you can tell I sorta fell from the forces of the cold and fought ev'ry silent night for some food inside my bowl. I fed forces filled with light and gave ev'rything despite all the times I held my glow, til it didn't feel right...I let her suck me til I dried and killed all I felt inside, though she couldn't break my heart and I couldn't hide my pride. It don't matter how I hurt. I took all that pain in stride, even though you drainin me cause you think I'm hurt and lied...

Wow, I've heard of people of acting like vampires but I've never heard of them actually drink blood. I think I'm going to be sick thinking about that.
