Report AbuseJUST IGNORE THEM THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THERE TALKING ABOUT IT'S YOUR LIFE AND IF YOU WANT TO GET MARRIED TO YOUR PARTNER THEN FIND OUT WHERE YOU CAN DO IT AND DO IT DON'T LET OTHER PEOPLE RUIN YOUR LOVE LIFE BECAUSE THERE STUCK IN THIER WAYS YOU JUST GO FOR IT
Report AbuseThere realt is only 3 things you can do. 1.Hold your tongue.2.open up and tell that person that you are gay. or 3.Leave.
Report AbuseIf you're pretty sure you won't lose your temper and ruin your friend's dinner party, I would calmly ask this person exactly why they're against gay marriage - what horrible thing will happen if it's legalized? Then, whatever they say, point to Massachusetts as a great example of why there is nothing to worry about if gay marriage is legalized - nothing has changed there in the 4 years it's been legal. If this homophobe is against gay marriage for religious reasons, point out that marriage is a civil institution, and that churches reamin free to not marry gay couples if they so choose. Good luck!
Report AbuseI'm with LoveKitties. If you think you can keep your cool then assert yourself and argue a valid point. The person is already ignorant if they are trying to block out an entire subculture and nix freedom of expression. They will probably become extremely flustered and tongue tied. If the opposite, and they point out religious reasons or even setting examples for the future, Remind said person that this country's foundation was that of executing your own beliefs and living your life the way that you see fit. By passing the law, the goverment is merely recognizing that. The churchs can freely refuse under the first ammendment to marry a homosexual couple.
The door swings both ways.
I hope it works out :)
Report AbuseKeep in mind your at that persons house and he/she would be just as wrong to not express a moral value of theirs as you would be to keep quiet about a social moral value that you think is deteriorating. In right setting there could and should be a fair and honest debate.
Report Abuseit's just an opinion.was this person aware of your being gay? I suspect they did and was trying to get a rise out of you. the old adage, don't discuss religion, politics etc.there are many reasons why people use,say a party or an audience to bring up these kinds of topics but you should never have to apologize for who you are.are you arguing for the couple's right to get married or for yourself because you're gay?nothing could be gained from trying to convince someone of something as important as this because the issue always get lost.same sex marriages are up to the people who decide whats best for their life and I could care less. It's like me being defensive and having to argue my case to every man so I can feel better about being a woman. If your life isn't in any danger, let it go.
Report AbuseAsk the person how it effects them, why they have these feelings (religious, etc.)and explain to them why it doesn't effect them and how religion doesn't support hatred. :)
Report AbuseMaking sweeping generalizations is a major block to logical thinking. Ignore them because they don't know what they are talking about.
