Yep, my old tired face got a new lipstick - Smoking red.
I totally overpaid for the experiene of walking up to a Laura Mercier counter at Nordstrom and dropping almost $30.00 on a shade of matte the color of my highschool prom roses. But I don't regret a thing. This, coming from a self-acclaimed thrift store/resale selling/99 Cent Store impulse buying junkie is something indeed!
I feel liberated. I feel sassy. I feel like the old Andrea is coming out to play. (Except not in those stilettos. I'm 6'1 as it is. I'd be GINORMOUS.)
No more cracked lips from Rite Aid dollar lip liners! And wow, my skin is softer, too! Not because of the lipstick, but because I bought some spf 30 hydrating foundation to go with it. (And no, I totally didn't get paid to say any of this. I'm was sucked into the retail vortex of reclaiming my youth just like the rest of you!)
At 39, I'm no longer a candidate for the haute Mac goth look, but I'm not ready for the Estee Lauder sweater set crowd either. My new shade of red shows that.
And, because I feel so, dare I say it, "sexy", I started curling my hair again. I'm powdering AND I'm wearing... gasp... mascara.
If I'm going to go 50's housewife, I'm going to do it in style! I have had meals on the table for the past few days right at 6. I've had perfume. I've even forgotten my panties on a few occasions for a post-kid romp.
Which is exactly why my husband has chosen this week, of all weeks, to work every night until 10pm.
Oh, well. I did it for me. I don't need his validation!
(Oh who am I kidding... it would have been fun to hear him ooh and awww. But its his loss. Just like it'll be his loss tomorrow when I come home too tired from a day of cherry picking at the farm to roll in the hay upstairs with him. Take the "cherry picking" analogy any way you'd like it, but I'm literally picking cherries with the kids. Lucky you - you'll get to hear all about it on Friday. And lucky Rex, I'll probably change my mind if he gets home at a decent hour.)
How about you ladies out there? Are you happy with your "look" or is it affecting your sex life?
Happy Hump Day!
* Photo from All Posters.com. I just adore that site and the style of those poster girls. They were just so spunky and curvy. I swear I'll be that old grandma with the red shoes and bright lipstick - just to stay plucky and keep Rex on his toes (or off them... that works, too!)
