It's the holidays! Whether it be Christmas or Hanukkah, there
are always gifts involved. But, it's important for the gifts
that people are getting for their significant others, their close
friends, or even the nice land lord on the upper level, to
understand why you got that gift for them. When a
person receives a gift that seems inconsiderate, it makes you seem
like a person that got the gift just because it was an
obligation.
Quality Over Quantity
I remember this one Christmas of '06, where two friends got me
different presents. One friend, Friend A, got me a beautiful gift
basket.. And although any person could see that it cost a lot of
money, it didn't evoke an emotion or gratefulness from me. And
to top it all off, she got the same kind of gift basket to
my other friend, except it was in a different color. I was a little
offended because it showed that Friend A didn't try to get me a
present. She just went into a shop and grabbed something off the
shelf to shut me up about Christmas.
Friend B didn't have time to get presents because a lot of was
going on in her life. She had art performances to rehearse for, and
finals were always around that time of the year. But she was so
sweet. She understood me well and knew what I loved and was amused
by. For Christmas of '06, she made me a cute little ornament of
my favorite animal, and everything was so 3D and adorable. The gift
also reminded me of an inside joke that she and I always laughed
about. The gift was hand made, adorable, and witty.
Even though Friend A got me an expensive gift that any girl would
love, it lacked a sense of understanding of me. I was disappointed
because she didn't show that she cared even though I
knew her for a very long time and I considered her one of my
closest friends. Ironically, I only knew Friend B for a couple of
years, but she showed me that she cared for me in the sweetest ways
by actually making me something that she
knew I would love.
Now, I'm not saying that everyone should go and get their
Arts&Crafts boxes out, but it's important that when you get
a gift for someone, don't get something that seems meaningless.
Getting a horrible gift for someone can leave a bad impression that
could last a long time.
Top Five MOST HORRIBLE gifts You Could Ever Get Someone You
Remotely Care About:
1. Candles
2. Soap/Soap Boxes
3. Fruit Baskets
4. Sweatshirts with any kind of animal on them. And no
Yarn/Wool please.
5. Something that just sits there. Like a dinner centerpiece.
Try to get something that shows you what you think of that
person.
Just a little advice on how to go gift shopping! And I guess
I've been subconsciously ranting about my grudge against Friend
A. :)
