As many of you already know, my son was diagnosed withTouretteslast year. My son, thank God, has a mild case. I'm not sure if this is because we were lucky enough to be spared the agonizing jerks that some people must contend with, or if it's due to the diet and supplements I have been giving him. Either way, I am grateful that I have found what I believe to be a true connection between tics and diet.
I talk about food and diet here because it wasn't until I started actively cooking for my brood - with patience, love and the acceptance that I'm going to make mistakes - did I see the correlation between food and sex. In taking the time to quietly, and methodically, chop the garlic, I'm learning to take time to quietly, methodically, devote myself to the pleasures of the bedroom. The best results I've had in the kitchen have come when I'm not rushed - when I enjoy myself - and so it is with sex. One site that has really boosted my love for the kitchen is Maggie's Daily Mastification. A true wordsmith, she not only writes about food there, but she writes about marriage and kids here at MindMoss. A poet, an innovative thinker, and sometimes funny as heck, you won't be disappointed with what you find.If it weren't for my son's condition, I wouldn't appreciate the occasional bowl of ice-cream. I wouldn't go out of my way to shop just for my family like I do now. Things work out.
Take my husband. Ever since our vacation a few months back, he has really been like a new man. Perhaps it was the mountain air, or the relaxation. Or maybe I'll just have to believe him when he told me that the kids were growing up so fast. He didn't want to miss anymore of it by freaking out over work. He wanted to be more integrated into our home life.
Like my son's favorite sugar alternative, agave, I don't think I could ever ask for anything sweeter. It's no big surprise that our sex life is pretty sweet these days, too. And while it's not something out of a fairy tale, my heart still ticks with appreciation none the less. And with Tourettes a daily word in our household, those are the kind of tics I'll take any day of the week.
