Poll: How do you collect items left at your ex's house after a breakup?

Everything you own in the box to the left!

Everything you own in the box to the left!

When you and your ex break up, no matter how amicably, it's still awkward retrieving the personal items you left behind. Some opt to meet up at a mutual location with a box of things to swap, while others may send a friend to pick up their stuff, unable to face the jerk in person. Personally, I am a fan of cutting my losses and never seeing them--or my DVDs, books, and sweater--again.

When Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo broke up she left more than a few toiletries behind. It was more like 37 boxes full of stuff! (Does anyone even own 37 boxes worth of anything?!) Obviously she wasn't about to part with her things, so she paid $19,000 to overnight her belongings from Dallas to Los Angeles. Yikes, that's one expensive breakup!

What do you do about the items you've left behind? Do you:
  • Go get them yourself
  • Have a friend pick them up for you
  • Forget about them
Have you ever done anything bad with the items your ex left at your place?

Why leave ANYTHING at an ex's house in the first place?

How can anyone have 37 boxes worth of stuff at the boyfriends house? I mean occasionally I would leave my sweater but that's it...

When my ex left he left behind alot of stuff so I started throwing all the nice things he bought and broke everything. I figured if we were not going to be engaged anymore I might as well get rid of everything that belonged to him in one night. I am so happy I broke off that engagement.

Doktor Eevol, if you are seeing someone to the point of sleeping at their place a few nights a week, most likely you have a few things laying around. In Jessica's case, sounds like she was half living there.

When my ex moved out a few years ago, she seemed to think that because I had a basement and she was now in an apartment I was her storage unit. Eventually I had to pack up her crap and tell her to come get it or it was getting thrown out. (I must say, I should have just trashed it, but I can be too nice sometimes.)

I would probably go get in myself or arrange a neutral meet up location if it was particularly bad break up.

Or anyone can be like me! I had an ex that used me for several thousands of dollars and now she won't give the stuff back to me so I hired my lawyer to take her to civil court to get my stuff back!Best part is her birthday is coming up in a few weeks and thats when the papers are getting searved on her! Its one birthday gift she will never forget!

I didn't know that someone could spoof your signature on Shine. The 7th post above is mine, but the 8th (SPAM filled trash) is not mine.
