Yes, I know... all of us should have such problems when dealing with a second home. But truth be told, all this coordination is not for the weak of spirit. Not to mention the savings drainage. As Rex loves to remind me, oh so dramatically, "We're hemorrhaging cash!"
It's true. It seems we burp these days and owe someone fifty dollars. And yet, it'll be worth it down the road. It's an investment in our family. It's a place all our friends are welcome to use. We're determined that the money we spend now will more than be paid back in memories (and en elevated seller's market God willing) in the future.
While nose to the grindstone is crucial to creating a solid future, it's also imperative to any relationship to have fun. It doesn't have to cost a boat load of money, but it does mean charging up some laughs on the Spend Time Together Visa.
Last night Rex and I made a committment to start hanging out together more. We're never going to be that couple that dances the night away at a club, but there's no reason at all we can't do a babysitting trade each week so we can walk to our favorite bookstore and grab a coffee. There's nothing like the simple pleasure of a jaunt through our neighborhood - his hands wrapped around mine - as we check out the Fall leaves or the pumpkin decorations. Inevitably we'll bump into a neighbor and find out about a new grandbaby or a puppy that was just adopted into the fold.
I love our community. I love Rex. As soon as this cabin starts being rented, it's going to be lovely to start enjoying the home we have right here. The one I'm typing in. The one my husband is laying in upstairs, next to the kids' rooms where my babies are sleeping in safety and peaceful reassurance that the world, despite all its insanity, is spinning just fine.
I hope, on this hump day, your world is peaceful also. Talk at ya Friday.
