I was browsing the raw feed here on Shine's Love and Sex
section this afternoon when I came upon an interesting title. Why
did I find it interesting? Because it similar to a post I had
written a few months ago about romance and sex. Naturally, I
clicked the link expecting to find someone with similar views on
the subject like myself in hopes of comisserating with a fellow
user.
The user's views weren't just similar, they were
the same. Exactly the same. I was reading my article
entitled "Romance doesn't start in the vagina".
The formatting was just a little different from the copy and paste
the user had done and a couple of paragraphs were deleted entirely,
but there was no doubt that it was my post.
The only real difference was the headline:
...VaGinA iS not A waY For ReaL RoMaNce... I should have
known nothing good ever comes from the misuse of captial
letters.
I am mortified. I worked very hard on that particular peice. It
took hours to compose and more hours to edit it. I was
incredibly proud of my writing and it is one of my personal
favorites. Seeing it in someone else's blog with no
citation to me made me angry. Seeing the comments
left giving accolades for the "writer's" (quotes are
for sarcasm) smart article and wisdom made me absolutely livid!
Before I knew it, I was typing a comment to the "author"
(sarcasm) stating that I did not like her reprinting my work as her
own. In hindsight, I should have skipped that step and gone
directly to the "Report" link. That was my second
step.
I'm not sure of how exaclt Shine copyrights user blogs, but
I'm pretty sure they frown on such plagarism. I asked that
they make the woman either cite my article to give me credit or
remove the post entirely. Frankly, I'd rather her have to admit
that she freaking stole my work!
Had she merely written something like "I found this great
article by Care and let me add my two cents to what she
said..." I would have been fine, happy even. The fact that she
decided to just copy and paste my article just floors me. The fact
that she thought it was okay and that I'd never see her post is
just freaking crazy; Crazier than thinking it was just peachy to
claim someone else's work as their own.
