The Harvest Fest
I've been meaning to write since the other
night but I haven't had the time. Our little side event during
the Harvest Fest made up for what happened to me the other night. I
did get to perform and I did alright too. It was definitely a night
that will go in my little history book of coolest events ever. They
canceled the outside performances because of the rain but the bar
apparently wanted us to still come and do our show so we did. Many
artists came together and supported my husband in his first
organized event. Seventh Layer came from Harrisburg, Lyrical showed
up AND brought the Cheesy Bread Man (?) who decided to go on for an
entire half hour, lol. Vile the Black Mage showed up!!! I was
really happy he showed up for hubby. I know this event meant a lot
to him and he would have been really upset if his main man
hadn't come. Camburn (me) came up out the anxiety box too. I
even did a song that I was not sure whether I wanted to present to
the world or not. "Magnificent". It's the story of
who I am and where I come from. It's pretty raw. It's real
and it's honest. I wasn't sure whether the world wanted to
hear a story about the girl next door and her struggles with anger
and domestic violence and parental neglect. I just was not sure. I
thought about replacing that song up till the last minute. Well,
what ended up happening was that people clapped for me during this
song and they really appreciated it. I was surprised. I was like
WTF?! It's all good though. I had a great time. I had to cut
out early to get some sleep for work but I watched the videos
later. What bothered me was that they stopped Davey Dips from
performing because of his style of rap. He is a person who also
keeps it real. He does horrorcore. That's his thing. That's
his style. If people can't appreciate him for the clever and
original artist that he is then they have a problem. I felt
horrible for him and I don't know if I could have been as
graceful as he was had it happened to me. Davey Dips is a really
nice guy. He does a lot for his artist friends and tries to give
everyone a chance. I was really upset with him about Saturday night
but I guess maybe it was an honest mistake and he found himself in
a situation that he just couldn't get out of and someone
unfortunately had to get the short end of the stick. It just
happened to be me. It wasn't anything personal and I dont'
think he deserved what happened Tuesday night. That really
sucked. So anyway, Vile went on and gave
his best peformance ever. He had me jumping up and down to his song
"I'm Broken". I love that sad song. I don't
always see eye to eye with my man about him but that night he was
there for him and he did well so I dont' have anything negative
to say. Gen and Noelz were very good, Illogik showed up despite his
problems he had going on. He's a real trooper. Homegrown came
from New York! Seventh Layer brought the house down!!! Another
group that I like. I even have my favorite songs of theirs. They
seem to be really cool like that have good senses of humor and they
like to have fun. They are so funny. I would
love to play at this Blue Marlin Bar again. I heard that they may
be having us back. That will be really great. Next time I go out
there I want to try some other things and I will be less nervous
now that I know what kind of crowd to expect and such. Well, I have
to run to work. Good day to anyone who might actually see
this.
