The Unsolvable Mysteries of the Male Mind

partner

A friend of mine recently received a semi-panicked phone call from her ex. Apparently, he'd made a pork tenderloin, and, not wanting to throw the juice or the remaining, inedible pieces of meat into the trash, threw the remnants down the toilet, flushed, and—SURPRISE—clogged it.

He tried using water to unclog the pipes. He tried using a plunger. He even tried using a coat hanger to fish the pieces of meat out (and keep in mind that this is a man who lives in an apartment that has a sink, we're not talking about someone living in a remote cabin in the woods!) and then finally, he called his ex. Who told him to call a plumber.

We love men, but—admit it—sometimes, in their quest to get things taken care of with as little fuss as possible, they can go overboard.  I once dated a guy who, instead  of using pillowcases, put t-shirts on his pillows. All of his pillows had little sleeves—that way, he didn't have to worry about cleaning his bed linens. Another friend of mine once dated a man who didn't have ANY sheets or blankets—he just slept in a sleeping bag on his bare mattress. And a third dated a guy who used to turn his socks inside out, so he could get a second wear out of them. "Practically new!" he'd say with a smile.

What about you? Any lazy guy "I can't believe it" tricks you've seen? And, in the interest of gender equality, any ones that you'll 'fess up to?

My boyfriend loves to cook and does'nt mind grocery shopping but it's as if he does'nt see dirt when he cleans. He wash the dishes and they'll be all greasy and have food on them. He'll also wash clothes and leave them to dry in the basement . They then stink of mildew and he does'nt smell it. So I end up rewashing everything he gets his hands on. I've tried to teach him but he gets insulted.

My boyfriend hates to do anything. Seriously. He hates shopping, he hates cleaning, he hates showering, he hates doing laundry, he hates cooking and doing dishes. Just about any household thing you can think of he almost refuses to do. He is lazy with bills and always puts things off to the last minute. I love him and want to be with him for the rest of my life, but sometimes I dont understand how he can be this way. I recently dicovered that I am pregnant, and after finding that out I had to sit down and explain to him that I wasnt going to be able to do as much around the house as normal. Needless to say, its almost a struggle to get him to carry a laundry basket for me so I can do the laundry or to get me a drink while Im puking in the toilet. I dont think its that he is inconsiderate, I just think that he was babied his whole life and got used to not doing anything around the house at all. I think we are due for another talk about how this whole thing makes me feel, like he doesn't care about the way I feel or our surroundings. He has always been a bit of a pack rat and he has cut that down extremely, he showers every other day now instead of once a week like before and will cook dinner for me if I ask him to. There has been progress made, but I feel that when this baby comes I am going to be left to do everything by myself with little help or involvement by him. And Im not sure talking is going to change much.

Tee hee, all these comments make me chuckle, and remind me of why we like boys so much.

I totally dig the t-shirt idea on the pillowcases, pillows with little sleeves! Hee!

And the socks thing? Pretty funny.

The only thing I can think of that my man does (or doesn't do) is he can be pretty reluctant to do the outside yardwork. I would be happy to, but doggone these allergies! He'll put it off forever. But, we have a new mower now, so perhaps the new toy will prove to be good motivation!

It's not a dating story, but my husband and oldest son have a habit of taking t-shirts and shirts off all together, and my son takes his jeans, boxers, and socks all off in one swipe. I have to pull clothes apart before I can put them in the washing machine. May be "convenient" to them, but it makes more work for me on laundry day. Oh, well!

Samantha B., I wish you the best! I felt sorry for you when I read your post, and I truly hope a heart to heart with your bf will do a world of good. Just remind him that good personal hygeine as well as a clean environment are the best ways to welcome a baby into your world. If your bf was truly "babied" growing up, then that could be exactly where the lack of helping, etc. on his part came in. Have faith--you can help him make positive changes. Just be sure to praise him each time he makes progress. Everyone likes to be complimented: tell him how great he smells after he showers and uses cologne, tell him how pleased you are that he picked up his dirty clothes, tell him how great it makes you feel when he helps with the dishes. Be strong in not doing everything for him, and it will work out. Good luck with everything and with the baby!

My husband's issue is the fact he is completely blind to everything that needs done. The sink can be overflowing with dishes and he doesn't see it, then he wonders why i'm huffing in the kitchen. The garbage is full and needs taken out, then he wonders why i'm taking out the garbage at 11:30 at night. He will do laundry....kind of. He will wash and dry the clothes then leaves them in baskets till I fold them and put them away. And he only does the laundry that is in the clothes hamper...he forgets to check where all the extra clothes may be..bathroom, kids rooms, bedroom...where ever he may have left something...then wonders where the extra 2 loads came from....If it wasn't for me we would be living in a total pig stye. ugh...can't live with them, can't live without them

My ex has more tools than most auto mechanics. Yet, whenever I needed to use my own tools, I had to go fish them out of his toolbox. He was too lazy to go to the garage for his own but, could manage to put mine our there when he was done using them?! One of the many reasons he's an ex, lol.

I like the pillow w little sleeves comment lol. would be funny to see!

I must be lucky...my bf loves to go to the mall, grocery store, ect with me!! He's very thoughtful and considerate and keeps his apartment pretty clean. The one bad thing....I don't think he likes to do dishes lol. There's prolly not a' one out there that doesn't have one little thing about him that shows his true "maleness" hehe.
